Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Camacho.
Hi Angel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into HVAC and refrigeration started with a desire to work with my hands, solve problems, and provide a meaningful service to people. Before starting my business, I spent years learning the trade, working on everything from residential heating and cooling systems to commercial refrigeration equipment. Along the way, I developed a passion for helping customers and taking pride in doing the job right.
After gaining experience in the industry, I decided to take a leap of faith and start Fairwinds Refrigeration & HVAC. Like many small business owners, I started with limited resources but a strong work ethic and a commitment to treating customers honestly and fairly. Building a business from the ground up has come with plenty of challenges, long hours, and learning experiences, but it has also been incredibly rewarding.
Today, Fairwinds Refrigeration & HVAC serves homeowners, businesses, agricultural facilities, wineries, and commercial clients throughout the Central Coast and surrounding areas. As a veteran-owned small business, I take pride in providing reliable service, quality workmanship, and building long-term relationships with my customers.
One thing that has helped me grow is focusing on treating every customer the way I would want my own family treated. Whether it’s a simple repair, a major installation, or an emergency service call, my goal is always to provide honest recommendations and solutions that truly help people.
Looking back, I’m grateful for everyone who has trusted me with their homes and businesses. Their support has allowed Fairwinds Refrigeration & HVAC to continue growing, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it has been a completely smooth road. Like most small business owners, I’ve faced my share of challenges along the way.
Starting a business requires a lot more than just being good at your trade. You have to learn how to manage finances, marketing, scheduling, customer service, estimating, and all of the behind-the-scenes responsibilities that come with running a company. There were times when I worked long days in the field and then spent evenings and weekends handling paperwork, quotes, invoices, and planning for the next week.
One of the biggest challenges has been balancing growth while maintaining the quality of service my customers expect. As the company has grown, I’ve worked hard to make sure every customer still receives the same level of honesty, communication, and attention to detail that helped build the business in the first place.
Like many small businesses, there have also been challenges with rising material costs, supply chain delays, and the uncertainty that comes with being an entrepreneur. There are no guarantees, and every day requires commitment, problem-solving, and perseverance.
Despite those challenges, I wouldn’t change the journey. Every obstacle has been an opportunity to learn and improve. The support from my customers, family, friends, and community has helped me continue moving forward. Looking back, those struggles have made me a better business owner and a better technician, and they’ve helped shape Fairwinds Refrigeration & HVAC into what it is today.
The road hasn’t always been easy, but it has absolutely been worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I would say we specialize in solving problems and taking care of customers. Whether it’s an emergency repair, preventative maintenance, or a large installation project, my goal is always to provide honest recommendations, quality workmanship, and reliable service.
What I’m most proud of is where I came from and what I’ve been able to build. I am a military veteran and grew up in the small agricultural town of Gonzales, California. Growing up, I worked in the agriculture fields, where I learned the value of a dollar, the importance of hard work, and what it means to earn everything you have. Those experiences taught me discipline, responsibility, and the importance of showing up every day ready to work.
Wanting to create a better future for myself and my family motivated me to continue learning, developing my skills, and eventually start my own business. Building Fairwinds Refrigeration & HVAC from the ground up has been one of the most challenging and rewarding accomplishments of my life.
What sets us apart is our commitment to treating customers the right way. As a small veteran-owned business, every customer matters to us. We take the time to communicate clearly, explain options honestly, and stand behind our work. I believe people appreciate knowing they can call someone who genuinely cares about helping them rather than simply making a sale.
At the end of the day, I want Fairwinds Refrigeration & HVAC to be known for integrity, hard work, and quality service. Those are the values I learned growing up, strengthened through military service, and continue to carry with me every day in business.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always active and enjoyed staying busy. I spent a lot of my time playing sports, which taught me the importance of teamwork, discipline, and working hard to achieve goals. During the summers, I worked whenever I had the opportunity, which helped me develop a strong work ethic at an early age.
I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands and figuring out how things work. Whether it was working on cars, motorcycles, or helping with projects around the house, I was constantly learning and looking for ways to improve or fix things. Looking back, those experiences probably played a big role in leading me toward a career in the trades.
Personality-wise, I’ve always been very outgoing and enjoy meeting new people. I’ve always liked building relationships, helping others, and being involved in my community. I think that’s one of the reasons I enjoy owning a business today—every day gives me the opportunity to meet different people, solve problems, and make a positive impact.
Growing up in a small town also taught me the value of hard work, respect, and treating people the right way. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my life and continue to influence how I run my business and interact with customers today.
