Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Allinger.
Hi Janet, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, I’m a California based Illustrator/artist known for bold colors, vintage-ish feel, and edgy designs with a sense of humor. I enjoy creating fun posters for events local and far away, painting original art using acrylics, gouache and torn paper.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been fortunate that, over the past 20+ years, clients looking for graphic design and illustration have found their way to me. During that time, I’ve had the pleasure of working with amazing clients in the wine and craft beer industries, as well as taking on a wide variety of creative projects—from unique logos and eye-catching posters to many other custom designs.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in graphic-style illustrations and posters with a vintage-inspired aesthetic. Humor plays a central role in my work. I want viewers to be drawn in by the bold colors and striking compositions, but I also hope my artwork brings a smile—or even a laugh.
As an artist, I also believe it’s important to create work that speaks to the issues shaping our world. Whether addressing political or environmental concerns, or advocating for people whose voices deserve to be heard, I strive to create art that is both engaging and meaningful.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
With the rise of AI, I do worry that graphic designers may increasingly be pushed aside, leading to imagery that feels repetitive and lacks true uniqueness.
AI can be a useful tool, I believe the value of a designer lies in their individual perspective, life experience, and creative voice—qualities that give artwork its personality and originality.
