Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Harrell.
Kaitlyn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Kaitlyn Harrell, I have been a licensed hairstylist for 16 years now. I started out shadowing my hairstylist when I was still in highschool and doing my friends and families hair. I did the R.O.P. Program my senior year in 2009 to start learning the craft. I started beauty school soon after graduation and finished Beauty school in one year. I then assisted 6 stylists at a large salon in mission valley and that is where I worked for the first 8 years of my career as a commission stylist. I am so grateful I chose to do that because I truly believe that is what made me the stylist I am and helped me be successful. I started helping train assistants after a couple of years behind the chair and then became a boothrent stylist, building my business and always taking continuing education classes to keep up with the trends. In 2024 I opened a salon suite with my best friend and prior assistant, Raeley. One year later we had grown out of the suite and we opened our own salon, Salon Ambition in Poway. It’s been an incredible journey to get to this point and I am so grateful.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a relatively smooth road, but It isn’t easy to build and maintain a successful business. I definitely had to make some sacrifices and work very hard to get where I am. I worked 6 days a week when I first started out and still work long hours behind the chair. Outside of the salon, I am a wife and a mother to two amazing children. Juggling being a business owner and raising a family, being present for everything is a challenge. I am so grateful to get to do it all.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in blondes, balayage, custom color, and hair extensions. I am a very meticulous stylist and prioritize hair health as much as possible while meeting clients goals and expectations. I love getting to make people feel and look their best, it is my favorite part of my job. I appreciate and value all of my relationships with clients and I am so grateful they choose me when there are so many wonderful options in San Diego.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years I think low maintenance color blends are still going to be the most prominent.
