Today we’d like to introduce you to Trinity Wohlferd.
Hi Trinity, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up i wrote my own music and wanted to record myself. After highschool I enrolled at SCCC School of Music where i earned a certificate in digital audio and beat production. I fell in love with mixing and doing the technical side of music instead of being an artist. I continued my education at Full Sail University where I got my Bachelors in Recording Arts. After graduating I stayed in the Orlando area because I was accepted into Full Sails dub stage internship. Sadly due to Covid it was shut down so I shifted to working at a few recording studios in the area such as Starke Lake. I worked in Orlando until around September 2022 when I won the Pensado’s Place Scholarship where I got a full ride to attend Abbey Road Institute in Miami. Since I was going to be living in Miami I applied and got a job at Criteria Recording Studios. Criteria is where i got my alalog chops and gained experience working with high end clientele and consoles such as the SSL Origin, AWS 900, Duality, SSL 9000, and a Neve 8424. I got to work with artists like Megan Thee Stallion, Gorillaz, LISA, Karol G, GloRilla, Gloria Estefan and many more. Ive got to be apart of many Grammy and Latin Grammy winning and nominated records during my time at Criteria. Through the connections I’ve made at Criteria I got picked up by an artist (NDA) and moved to California in January of 2026 and have been here in Cali since!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely a challenging road but it paid off. I faced the same struggles that everyone hears about in the music industry which is 1)finding opportunities and 2)finding opportunities that pay the bills. Most studios (at least in Orlando) are unpaid internships and when you move up to engineer its low wages and can be unstable hours. I was fortunate enough to be on salary at the studio i was engineering for which let me branch out and intern at other studios at the same time. 2020-2022 I was working a lot just to try to get my foot in the door to create more opportunities and build my network. That experience paid off and let me get my foot in the door at Criteria when I made the move. Most of my career from 2020 just starting till 2025 I was doing what I love but barley scraping by. It took about 5 years for me to land a really well paying gig as a Audio QC Tech for a start up. Because of that job I was able to yes to the opportunity to move to Cali. Now im in a position I’m not looking for more work or money and focus on my hobbies and relaxing for the first time since I started this career path in 2018.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Grammy nominated recording and mixing engineer. I’m most known for the big artists I’ve worked with but I don’t keep track of number or accolades any more. I’m very proud to finally say “I made it” when I got picked up by one of my favorite artists and get to work with their team everyday. I get to work on great music surrounded by nice people in a beautiful studio, and i can have a work/life balance. There’s not much more i could ask for. I would say my mindset sets me apart from others. There was never a time that I thought about giving up or quitting because I knew it would eventually work out and I was right. I prefer to focus on my craft and improving my skills instead of chasing the steaming numbers because that’s what social media deems as success. I would not pretend to be someone I’m not to fit in a crowd that clearly wasn’t for me just to get my name credited on a song. By staying true to myself I ended up with higher steaming numbers, more credits, and my dream job so I would like to believe this was the best way to go. On a more surface level my experience sets me apart because the title of “Engineer” is very loose nowadays. A Lot of students graduate college and call themselves an Engineer because they can press 3 in protools but don’t know signal flow of a console or anything about analogue gear or vintage mics. My goal was always to be a real engineer. I wanted to be the best tracking engineer and learn everything about Protools but also become a beast in the studio by reading every console manual, assisting on every type of session that came through the door so I could learn as much information as possible. I think in order to be a great engineer you have to be a great protools op, a great assistant engineer, a great producer, and try to master the rolls of everyone around you.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I liked that it was a college town (alteast where I was staying) becuase I wasn’t as nervous applying to studios bc my friends or other recent college grads worked there and were open to taking in people with no experience yet. I didn’t really go out much when I lived in Orlando. When I was in school I was aiming for a 4.0 so i spend most my time on homework and projects. When I graduated I was at 3 studios all at the same time so there was no days off really. But everyone I met was very nice and I was cool to see how most the people were from other areas of the world and all traveled to move to Orlando to chase some sort of dream
