Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Doll.
Hi Marissa , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve wanted to be a nurse since eighth grade, when a dear friend handed me an anatomy book and something just clicked. For the last decade, I’ve been lucky enough to live out that dream and it has shaped my life in the most meaningful way.
The last five of those ten years were spent in home health, and working in that setting changed the way I saw everything. Being in people’s homes, in the middle of their real lives made it so clear how much families needed support in ways that were actually applicable to their day-to-day. Not just clinical care, but understanding, organization, and guidance they could hold onto.
The hard truth about our medical system is that the primary focus is often active, acute issues. And while that care is incredibly important, there’s a significant gap in our healthcare system for everything that comes before and between those acute moments, the preventative education, the support for someone suddenly stepping into a caregiver role, the guidance for a person sitting with a brand new diagnosis and no idea where to start.
I founded Dollhouse Nursing in February 2026 with a heart to fill that gap, for the patients and families in our community who deserve more than a rushed appointment and a stack of paperwork they don’t fully understand.
One of my absolute favorite parts of being a nurse has always been creating plans and calming the chaos. There is nothing like sitting down with someone who is overwhelmed and watching them, by the end of our time together, take a deep breath because they finally have clarity and a clear path forward. That moment fills my heart every single time.
My goal is for people to have a deep, real understanding of their full health, and what’s happening in their bodies, so they can advocate confidently for themselves and the people they love. The services at Dollhouse Nursing are supportive and educational in nature and are meant to be used alongside your existing medical care, not to replace it, but to help you feel more informed, more organized, and more confident as you navigate it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, no, but in the best possible way.
I am a first-time business owner, and everything about starting Dollhouse Nursing has been brand new to me. There was a lot of research and self-education that had to happen before I ever saw my first client. Even my own family thought I was a little crazy for trying to take on something so new and different, and to be totally transparent, I understood why. This type of service isn’t common or well-established in our community, so there wasn’t exactly a roadmap to follow.
One of the things I was most relieved to discover along the way was that providing education and supportive consultations falls squarely within the scope of my registered nursing license, that was a huge green light that gave me the confidence to move forward.
It has been a slower start than I might have imagined, but what has been truly incredible is the amount of support and positivity I’ve received from so many people in the healthcare community. That has meant more than I can say.
Starting a business for the first time is nerve-racking, I won’t sugarcoat that. There are so many moving pieces and moments of uncertainty. But I keep coming back to why I started this in the first place: my heart for this work and for the people I get to serve. I’m confident that will show through, and that this business will grow because of it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Dollhouse Nursing Inc.?
Dollhouse Nursing is a nurse-led healthcare consulting practice dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate the often overwhelming healthcare system with confidence. I provide personalized education, care coordination, advanced care planning, and caregiver support for people managing chronic illnesses, recovering from surgery, navigating new diagnoses, or caring for aging loved ones.
What makes Dollhouse Nursing unique is that I bridge the gap between the doctor’s office and home. Many patients leave appointments with unanswered questions or feel unsure how to put their care plan into practice in their own lives. Through one-on-one consultations and in-home visits, I take the time to explain diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and next steps in a way that’s easy to understand. My goal is to help patients and caregivers feel informed, organized, and empowered to make confident healthcare decisions.
I also specialize in supporting family caregivers, who are often carrying an enormous responsibility without medical training. I help families navigate the realities of caring for loved ones with dementia and other progressive illnesses by providing education, practical guidance, and connections to trusted community resources. Whether it’s preparing for appointments, organizing medical information, understanding a loved one’s condition, or learning what to expect as a disease progresses, I strive to help families feel less overwhelmed and more confident in the care they provide.
Another important part of my practice is advanced care planning. I help individuals and families facilitate meaningful conversations about future healthcare wishes, discuss the importance of Advance Directives and POLST forms, and ensure loved ones understand a person’s goals and preferences before a medical crisis occurs. These conversations can be difficult, but they often bring peace of mind and help families make decisions with greater confidence and clarity.
Dollhouse Nursing offers flexible support to meet families where they are. Services include one-time consultations, in-home visits, telehealth appointments throughout California, and personalized consultation packages for those who would benefit from ongoing guidance. I also offer acute consultations for individuals and families navigating a hospitalization or sudden illness. During these stressful times, having an experienced registered nurse available to answer questions, explain medical terminology, help families understand treatment options, prepare for conversations with the healthcare team, and provide reassurance can make all the difference. While hospital teams work tirelessly to provide excellent care, they often have limited time to answer every question in depth. My role is to provide the education, clarity, and support families need so they can make informed decisions with confidence.
At the heart of Dollhouse Nursing is the belief that healthcare should feel personal. Every individual deserves the time, education, and compassionate support needed to navigate life’s health challenges. I want people to know they don’t have to do it alone. Whether someone needs guidance after a new diagnosis, help caring for a loved one, assistance planning ahead for future healthcare decisions, or simply a trusted nurse to answer questions and provide clarity, Dollhouse Nursing is here to walk alongside them every step of the way.
What are your plans for the future?
As Dollhouse Nursing continues to grow, my goal is to expand access to personalized nurse-led education and support for even more individuals and families throughout California. I hope to continue building strong relationships with healthcare providers, hospitals, and community organizations so patients can more easily access trusted guidance before, during, and after major health events.
I’m also excited to continue developing educational resources for patients and caregivers, including workshops, online courses, and practical tools that help people feel more confident navigating the healthcare system. My vision is to empower families with knowledge before a crisis occurs, not just during one.
Most importantly, I want Dollhouse Nursing to become a trusted resource that people think of when they or a loved one receives a difficult diagnosis, begins caring for an aging parent, or simply needs someone to help make sense of a complex healthcare journey. If I can help families feel less overwhelmed, more prepared, and more confident in advocating for themselves and their loved ones, then I know I’m making the impact I set out to create.
