Today we’d like to introduce you to Andreea Izdraila.
Hi Andreea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a young artist who’s passionate about illustration, content creation and communication. Throughout my life, I always felt a big love for art. I started drawing since a very young age and took that love with me till today.
Not only that, but I grew up in a multicultural ambience. I’m Romanian, but I was born in Spain, and learned English from a very young age. This shaped me and the way I see life.
I grew up wanting to express myself in every way I could, from movement, to words and creativity. I love to film, to write about life experiences and to portray them in my illustrations!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest struggles for me was believing in myself. I stopped pursuing art in my teenage years, because I felt like I wasn’t good enough. Sometimes I’d create things that I was proud of, but I felt like I never stood a chance comparing to other talented artists out there.
Growing up, I’ve realised how much perfectionism and comparison affected me, and I finally started to pursue my dreams thanks to therapy and thanks to the people that encouraged me to do it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an illustrator and content creator. On my social media, I post mostly about the experience of unapologetically choosing what you truly want, and I try to talk a lot about self compassion.
I believe so many people have gone through a similar experience, where they might felt lost or felt like they are not good enough to pursue their dreams.
I like to make content that reminds people to enjoy the journey, to slow down and be as present as they can and to choose what feels right for them.
And with all of that, I try to portray it in my illustrations. I specialise mostly on ink, but I love to use crayons and watercolors to make them stand out. I’d define my art as playful and spontaneous, and I mostly portray moments and objects that bring joy, or can remind you of a good moment.
I also love to illustrate drinks, because they remind me of the moments where you connect with yourself and with others. When you go out for a drink with someone you love, or even yourself, you can experience so many fun moments!
I think what differentiates my content from others is the fact that I try to express how important it is to get out of your comfort zone and go do the thing that you know will make you feel good, and not giving your negative thoughts the power to dictate your life! I mean, I’m experiencing that myself at the moment, and I wish someone would’ve told me sooner how freeing is it to go beyond the limits that you put in your head!
For me, doing art again after so many years and pursuing my dreams has been so relieving and brought me incredible moments. And I want to show others they can do the same!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I think big cities are a great place to find opportunities and grow professionally and personally. For me, Madrid is a city full of life, and that is thanks to all the entrepreneurs and small businesses out there. Wherever you go, you find a place that can make you feel good, either a cafe, a restaurant, workshops…
But I believe there are so many talented people out there who haven’t been noticed yet, because the job markets and because social media, in general, are very saturated, so I think that can be discouraging for many.
Still, I think there’s a place for everyone in this world, no matter their career or dreams!
