Hi Anthony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always appreciated the artistic side of being behind a camera. I love the intention behind every photo or video and how each one can capture a memory, a feeling, or a story happening in a single moment.
That started back in high school when I first got to mess around with a Canon T2i that belonged to a friend. It was this big, intimidating camera, and I immediately thought it was the coolest thing in the world. After high school, I ended up getting one of my own and spent a lot of time making little videos and taking photos just for fun. At the time, though, I wasn’t really sure how to navigate photography as a profession, so eventually I stepped away from it for a few years.
Fast forward to when I started learning how to DJ, inspired by some of my friends. As I became more involved in the EDM community, I started noticing how much of a need there was for media. A lot of upcoming DJs and producers were trying to establish themselves in the scene and needed photos and videos, but didn’t always have the budget for professional media. I saw an opportunity to not only help these artists, but also give myself a reason to get back behind the camera and build a portfolio.
I started mainly shooting EDM events, often offering to shoot for free just to gain experience and create work for my portfolio. Over time, those opportunities led to connections with people throughout the scene, and those connections opened doors I never expected. I’ve had the opportunity to photograph artists I looked up to, work in venues where I never imagined I’d have backstage access, and watch artists use my photos as their profile pictures and promotional media. Honestly, seeing my work become part of someone’s artistic identity has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
I’m still learning every day. Not only about the media industry, but also about myself and how I want to grow as both a creative and a business. There have been plenty of challenges along the way, but each experience has taught me something and pushed me further. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported me, trusted me with their stories and careers, and continued to reach out and work with me. What started as simply being fascinated by a camera has grown into something I’m genuinely proud to call part of who I am.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I personally feel like it’s been a pretty smooth road overall. That’s not to say I haven’t made mistakes along the way. I definitely have, but I believe those mistakes are just part of the process. I’ve learned that this type of work isn’t something you can simply walk into and expect to succeed at overnight. A big part of it is networking, continuously learning, and figuring out how to utilize everything you have to build your presence and find your place in the scene.
There have definitely been moments where I’ve had to step outside of my comfort zone, put myself out there, and learn from experience. But honestly, I think those challenges have been some of the most valuable parts of the journey.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work primarily focuses on photography and videography, especially within the local creative, music, and dance communities. I enjoy capturing artists, DJs, dancers, events, or people who just need a new Linkedin shot.
I think what sets me apart is that I’m also a part of the communities I photograph. I’ve been involved in breaking for many years and have am deeply involved in DJing and the local music scene, so I understand what it’s like to be on both sides of the camera. That gives me a different perspective when I’m working with other creatives because I’m able to understand the environment and the feeling they’re trying to express.
I’m probably most proud of how much I’ve been able to grow simply by putting myself out there and continuing to create. I’ve met so many people and made so many friends. Been in places where I didn’t think I’d ever be. I’m still developing my style and figuring out where I want to take my work, but I’m proud of the fact that I’ve been able to turn something I genuinely enjoy into a way of connecting with and contributing to the creative community around me.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that photography and videography weren’t actually where my creative journey started. I’ve been involved in breaking for many years (20+), and that was one of the first ways I learned how to express myself creatively/artistically.
A lot of the way I approach photography and videography actually comes from that background. I’m used to paying attention to movement, timing, music, feeling, and the small moments that make a performance feel alive. Eventually, that perspective naturally carried over into being behind the camera.
Not only I dance or DJ, but I’ve ended up exploring several different sides being creative. I’ve many several reels with different types of prompts. I’ve made breaking videos, breaking tutorials, funny memes, trends, promo videos for events, recaps, and all sorts of things that would help myself or others. I think that’s something people might not expect when they primarily know me as a photographer or videographer.
