Conversations with Carolyn Jaynes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Jaynes.

Hi Carolyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a child, I loved listening to my female relatives talk about ghosts and spirits. This fascinated me! I began reading more about it from the library as young as junior high. I found stories about near death experiences and reincarnation so compelling. I started having my own spiritual experiences with seeing auras, manifesting desires, miracles and strange occurrences. I wrote them down so I wouldn’t forget.

After keeping a journal since the age of 12, I focused on telling short stories about my personal awakening and put it all into a book titled Sprinkles from Heaven – Stories of Serendipity. It was amazing how all the right people showed up when I needed them. A free editor? Unheard of! A free house with provisions for 4 years so I could write? Definitely a miracle. After that, I rented homes without jobs, moved all over, and published my book for free.

I never thought I’d write more than one book. That first book came out on Amazon in 2014. As of May 2026, I have five books of true stories all related to my life as a spirit medium and how it progressed over the years, along with loves and loss, crazy jobs and interesting people, and how I stepped into my purpose as an author, singer, counselor and teacher organically, flowing along with guidance from my spirit guides. Everyone has them, yes, even you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There was a steep curve learning to be a writer. I took creative writing classes with amazing teachers and met other writers who inspired and encouraged me. I wrote, rewrote, rewrote, edited and you guessed it, wrote again. Sometimes it came out in wild bursts. Sometimes I’d go months without writing a page. How is a book written? One sentence at a time. As my life unfolded naturally, I wrote about it. Sometimes I wondered if fate was making things happen, so I’d write about it. I waited until I felt inspired to write. I had every story edited by people I respected.

I had joined the San Diego Writers and Editors Guild and had my stories published in their annual anthologies. I had two stories published in Chicken Soup for the Soul. One was Angels All Around about a divine intervention where a car accident could have been fatal but wasn’t because of divine intervention. The other was a story about hitting the jackpot with free furniture when a tenant was moving out the same time I was moving in and we were able to help each other with that. It’s in the Miracles & The Unexplained book.

As a new author, I began speaking in public at community centers, libraries and senior communities, signing books and having a lot of fun with other open-minded, curious people like me. When the central library of San Diego hosted a new author night and I saw my book in a display case, I felt like maybe I’m a real author now. Some stories were smooth and easy. Some were difficult to put into words.

I’m told when it comes to author’s books, the first is the worst, so we just get better with time and more writing. If you want to be a writer, I can’t emphasize enough how vital it is to have mentors, editors, and other authors to support your journey. Our read and critique groups were very helpful and took my writing to a new higher level, once you get past the criticisms and see suggestions as helping you rather than hurting you. It’s one thing to write a story and another to make sure your reader can understand what you’re writing. Struggles with patience, details, formatting, and problem-solving were resolved as I put my trust in the Loving Universe and took care of everything in small increments. Each book took 2-3 years to write. I’m not fast but I’m original!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My legacy will be my books on spiritual adventure stories and how I became a spirit medium. At 65, I’m retired and my spirit guides say I don’t need to write any more books. I’ve taught lots of spiritual development classes online and in person and that has been the most rewarding for me. I see myself doing more teaching and speaking in the future.

A few people I know have read all five of my books and say they love them. Wow, that’s the best feeling, knowing my work has touched someone and inspired, entertained and uplifted them in some way. I want to help raise the energy vibration of the planet one reader at a time or one student at a time. They often share their own amazing stories, and this validates everyone having experiences like mine. We can all be more open and happier just by practicing gratitude and joy.

I continue to take mediumship classes even though I’m already certified after 4 years of studies. I just love hanging out in zoom rooms with other mediums and exploring greater spiritual dimensions. I know its way out there for some of you who haven’t started having your own experiences yet, but you will. These classes have elevated all of us to meeting our many spirit guides by name. They all have different jobs, they all help us in meaningful ways, and I share how I met mine in my books. Since all of my stories are about my personal experiences, who can argue about it? It’s what happened to me and it’s what’s happening to many people I know. We are awakening to our spirit selves. It’s just a matter of time and belief.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My daughter, Natalie has an enlightening podcast called Divine Flow on Spotify which I enjoy. She has written books, done Reiki healings, did hypnosis and past life regressions, and has given hundreds of professional astrology readings. She is also an artist who designed my first two book covers and my website: CarolynJaynes.com. She has been a big supporter of my work and mediumship, I totally support her work, too. Even as a little girl, she could see the future. Who knew that when she was a fortune-teller for Halloween how true to life that would be later on when she became a visionary? Her podcasts feature other spiritual entrepreneurs across the globe. Each topic is unique and interesting. I highly recommend her.

Of course, I also love watching and listening to other mediums like Theresa Caputo, Tyler Henry, and many others. I like Afterlifetv.com and books on spiritual topics written by Dolores Cannon, Denise Linn, Sonia Choquette, and oldies but goodies like Sylvia Browne. One of the first books I read was by Raymond Moody and Edgar Cayce. But I like to stay current!

New Thought churches like Science of Mind, Unity and Spiritualist churches have been inspiring me for many years. One of the first readings I ever gave to someone was in a public church on stage, totally unexpected, and right on target. I remember feeling like I had finally stepped into who I really am and the joy was deep and profound. It’s also a high to help someone heal from grief. No one ever really dies. We just change into our invisible spacesuits on our way to Heaven, where we ALL go.
