Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Hattersley.
Hi cindy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Before I ever started blogging, I spent many years working as an interior designer, which is really where my eye for a well-considered space came from. I began blogging back in 2012 as an outlet for sharing everything I love about interior design, entertaining, gardening, and fashion. At that time no one had even heard of Instagram. As my blog and Instagram presence has grown, so has my focus on what it means to keep growing into a new chapter of life rather than fading out of one. When I started, no one was talking about design, style, and vitality for women in their 60s and beyond. It either didn’t exist or it was condescending. The heart of my content hasn’t changed. I’ve always believed the most honest content comes from actual life, not a styled fantasy of it. Fourteen years in, I still find the same things keep me going: the sense that a well-loved home, a considered wardrobe, and a garden well tended are all part of the same sphere. You collect them, and you curate them over the years. That’s really been my story as well.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been smooth, no. When I started in 2012, blogging wasn’t really a career path yet, there was no roadmap for turning it into something sustainable. I had to learn everything as I went: photography, SEO, building an audience, eventually working with brands, while still figuring out my own voice.
The harder struggle, honestly, has been more personal than professional. Writing about aging, style, and reinvention means constantly pushing back against a culture that sometimes writes women my age out of the conversation. I will soon be 72. Staying visible, staying relevant, and staying honest about what this chapter of life actually looks like, rather than either ignoring it or sanitizing it, has been an ongoing effort trust me!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At its core, my work is about showing that style, home, and vitality don’t have an expiration date. Through Cindy Hattersley Design, I write across four pillars: Interiors, Fashion, Garden, and Aging Positively, but really they’re all one conversation about living well and intentionally, at any age.
Funny enough, I never set out to be a model. My original intention with the fashion content was simply to offer style inspiration, not to be the one wearing it. But a brand coerced me into stepping in front of the camera myself, and I’ve been an accidental fashionista ever since. What started as a reluctant yes turned into something I now do intentionally, for other women my age who want to remain relevant and stylish, because someone needs to carry that torch.
I’m probably best known for what I call the Collected Style, the idea that a great personal style isn’t bought all at once, it’s built and layered over years, the same way a well-loved home is. I’ve also built a following around the idea that this chapter of life is one we’ve earned, not one to apologize for or fade quietly into. Refusing to be invisible has become something of a mission statement for me.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love best about Paso Robles is the sense of community built around food and wine, paired with that genuine small town friendliness. So many people here have come from somewhere else, and there’s an openness to meeting new people and embracing new ideas that you don’t always find in small towns. Paso is proof that a place can have a big heart and world class ambitions at the same time, Michelin restaurants and celebrated wineries alongside charming small boutiques, all without losing its warmth.
Honestly, I can’t think of much I don’t like. It’s rare to find a place that gets so much right. We feel fortunate to have landed here.
