Daily Inspiration: Meet Andrea Strand

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Strand.

Hi Andrea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a women’s health nurse practitioner specializing with n Menopause. I have a masters of science in nursing from Yale University. I am a daughter of an OBGYN and one of five daughters. Women’s health has always been important to me. I am a wife and mother and have been a very competitive athlete in n running and biking. I won the first Santa Barbara Mararhon in 2009. I started my career in NYC working in IVF. I was also a September 11, 2001 first responder working the fallen Twin Towers.

I currently work with Dr. Suzanne Ramos. My practice has covered teen health to the menopausal woman. I have found privilege in educating and practicing hormone replacement therapy, lifestyle wellness and longevity. I am a member of the National Menopause Society. I have held many talks locally helping women educate themselves on perimenopause and menopause. Because we deserve wellness.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Women’s Health has always been an underserved area of medicine, especially menopause! Hormones have been mislabeled as dangerous and women have been left to suffer. There is great challenge and work to re-educate patients and practitioners to appropriately and best serve women. Treating menopause effectively lowers the risk of almost ever disease state in women- cardiovascular, metabolic, bone health, mental and sexual health and cancer.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

I am known for local speaking on menopause, listening to women and effectively helping them navigate menopause. I am well versed and studied in hormones and hormone replacement. I am a member of the National Menopause Society. With a passion for an active lifestyle, I promote big picture wellness for longevity. I taught Pilates and spin classes for 15 years. I have been a lululemon ambassador. I am most proud of my capabilities to educate and set example. I love the doing of things and the living of life and I help women take back their zest for it.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
So many people have helped me along my journey and still do. My parents were education focused and great believers in achieving. My husband has been my biggest fan from helping me focus and study in my professional career to joining me in any situation I feel like learning- example roller skating which I went from being a beginner to performing for Anderson Pak. He has helped me raise our children allowing me the opportunity to be both a mother and a professional.

Dr Ramos is an incredible physician. She has allowed and supported every opportunity for professional growth and it’s a joy to work alongside her. She is passionate about women’s health. I could not have the reach that I do to help women without her support.
