Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Purdy.
Hi Heather, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
While living in Madrid, I opened my photography business, as I had started to miss imagery, after working in TV for a some shows, while a film major. Something special about documenting couples is how I always say my job gives physical shape to the intangible magic that is connection and chemistry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle has been moving my business to different locations… I opened in Madrid and then we moved to The Netherlands, before moving back stateside to Monterey! Each new location brought new challenges, SEO rebuilds, scouting opportunities, networking, and an overhaul in approach. It presents an exciting challenge each time, though!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in adventure elopements and have shot all over… From Europe to Patagonia and all over the West Coast. My work features a strong emphasis on storytelling imagery with an organic, romantic, fairytale feel. Playing with light and shadow is one of my favorite ways to help tell the love stories of my couples.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The most important thing to me is that my couples come away from their wedding or elopement day feeling even more connected to each other than when they started. I strive to make sure they never feel like they are having to pose, but more that they are being softly directed into a moment, without worrying what to do with their hands.
Inclusivity is also the cornerstone of my business. Making sure all couples know they are welcome and I am a safe space and eternally honored to capture each individual and unique love story is wildly important to me.
