Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirby Slager.
Hi Kirby, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path to Planet Group Chat has been anything but linear, but looking back, every chapter makes beautiful sense.
I spent nearly 16 years working as an actor, improviser, and comedian, training and performing at places like The Groundlings, Second City, and UCB. Storytelling, character work, and making people laugh have always been some of the most natural ways I connect with others. When the pandemic shifted the entertainment industry, and my own priorities, I stepped away from acting and moved more deeply into breathwork, somatic healing, meditation, and nervous-system education.
That work taught me how powerful it is to help someone feel seen, and not only understand but TRUST themselves. At the same time, I began studying astrology and I fell in love with its wisdom, but I felt there was space for it to be more accessible, playful, and emotionally relatable.
Planet Group Chat was born from the meeting point of those worlds: comedy, character performance, astrology, and healing. As I learned Astrology, I saw the planets not as distant celestial bodies, but as personalities with their own voices, insecurities, relationships, and opinions. What if Saturn were the strict rule-follower? Venus a lovable “Girl’s Girl?” Mars a passionate, yet slightly dramatic warrior? Through short-form videos, I started using these characters to explain astrology in a way that made people laugh while also helping them understand themselves.
What began as a creative experiment quickly grew into a community. Today, Planet Group Chat reaches more than 20,000 people across social platforms, and I offer personalized astrology readings designed to help people feel seen, supported, and more trusting of their own inner wisdom.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t call the road “smooth,” but the challenges have certainly shaped the heart of my work.
One of the biggest struggles has been trusting a path that doesn’t fit neatly into one category. For a long time, I thought I needed to choose between being an entertainer and being someone who supports healing and transformation. Planet Group Chat has asked me to stop separating those parts of myself and recognize that humor can be healing, creativity can be meaningful, and education doesn’t have to feel serious to be valuable.
There has also been a lot of identity work involved. After stepping away from acting, I built a career teaching breathwork, somatic movement, meditation, and sound healing. That work gave me stability and purpose, but eventually I began to feel a strong pull back toward storytelling, performance, and the permission to heal JOYFULLY. Allowing myself to want something new, without diminishing everything that came before it, has required courage, honesty, and a tremendous amount of self-trust.
Building Planet Group Chat while continuing to teach has also meant balancing limited time and energy. I’ve had to learn the business side of being a creator in real time: developing offers, pricing my work, understanding social media, building a community, and finding ways to create consistently without sacrificing my nervous system or turning something I love into another form of hustle.
Visibility has brought its own challenges as well. Sharing something unconventional invites opinions, and I’ve been re-introduced to old fears about being judged, misunderstood, “too much,” or even “not good enough” in what I’m creating. I’m learning that being visible doesn’t require abandoning my sensitivity, it requires becoming rooted enough in my vision that other people’s reactions don’t determine its value.
The road is still unfolding. I’m currently in the vulnerable in-between of growing Planet Group Chat into my full-time work while gradually releasing roles that once felt secure. It can be uncomfortable, but it has also taught me that clarity doesn’t always arrive before we begin. Sometimes it’s created by continuing to take the next honest step.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the creator and performer behind Planet Group Chat, a character-driven astrology brand that uses comedy, storytelling, and emotional insight to make astrology feel accessible, entertaining, and deeply human.
I write and perform as each of the planets, giving them distinct personalities, voices, and relationships. Through their conversations, I translate complex astrological events into stories that help people understand not only what is happening in the sky, but what they may be experiencing within themselves.
Beyond the videos, I offer personalized astrology readings that blend chart interpretation, intuition, and compassionate guidance. My intention is never to tell someone who they are or predict their life for them. I use astrology as a tool to reflect their natural gifts, patterns, and possibilities back to them so they can feel seen and trust their own wisdom more deeply.
What sets my work apart is the combination of disciplines behind it. I bring nearly 16 years of acting, improv, and character experience together with my background in breathwork, somatics, nervous-system education, and emotional healing. I understand how to make people laugh, but I also understand how to hold tenderness. The comedy opens the door, the astrology offers language, and the deeper message reminds people that there is nothing wrong with who they are.
I’m most proud of the community forming around Planet Group Chat. People often tell me that the videos make astrology easier to understand, brighten their day, or help them feel less alone in what they’re experiencing. I’m proud that I’ve created something joyful without making it shallow, and meaningful without making it heavy. I now go “Live!” on Instagram every Wednesday from 10a-10:30a, and it has been a massive blessing for me to truly connect with people around the World through this work.
Ultimately, Planet Group Chat isn’t only about astrology, it’s about translating the human experience into stories, laughter, and belonging. My goal is to build a world where people can recognize themselves in the planets, understand one another with greater compassion, and remember that personal growth can include a lot more play.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Although Planet Group Chat is currently a one-woman operation, it has never felt like something I’ve built entirely alone.
My partner, Adam, deserves enormous credit. He has believed in the vision from the beginning, even during the moments when I questioned whether something this playful and unconventional could become a real business. He is often the first person to remind me of the bigger picture when I get caught in the details (Hello Virgo;). Having someone who supports both my ambition and my well-being has been invaluable.
My family and close friends have also been incredible cheerleaders. They have watched me move through several versions of myself, from actor and comedian to somatic facilitator and now creator and entrepreneur, and have continually encouraged me to trust the thread connecting all of those chapters. My siblings are some of my earliest supporters, and my friends have offered everything from honest feedback to enthusiastic sharing and reminders to keep going.
I also owe a great deal to the teachers, directors, coaches, and collaborators I encountered throughout my years in acting, improv, breathwork, and somatic healing. Each of those communities taught me something different: how to build a character, listen deeply, tell a compelling story, trust an impulse, hold space for emotion, and communicate complex ideas in ways people can feel. Planet Group Chat would not exist in its current form without that collective education.
Finally, the Planet Group Chat audience and my astrology clients play an enormous role in the evolution of the business. Their comments, questions, vulnerability, and willingness to share the work have shown me what resonates and where the brand wants to grow next. Every time someone says a character helped them understand themselves, made them laugh during a difficult day, or gave them language for something they were feeling, it reinforces why I’m creating this.
I may be the person writing and performing the characters, but Planet Group Chat is being built through a much larger web of encouragement, trust, and community. I feel incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped me believe that all the seemingly unrelated pieces of my life were actually leading me here.
