Exploring Life & Business with Erica Dudley of Super Mallows

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Dudley.

Hi Erica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Erica Dudley, and I’m the founder of Super Mallows, a company that started in the most unexpected — and meaningful way: my desire to make healthy marshmallows for my kids.

I’m a big believer that food is healing, and what we put into our bodies truly matters. When I couldn’t find treats that matched the quality and ingredients I wanted for my family, I decided to make my own. What began as a simple kitchen experiment quickly turned into something much bigger. I shared a batch with my mom, and she loved them in her coffee so much that she posted about them on Instagram. Suddenly, people started asking if I sold them.

At first, I was hesitant. I had been a stay-at-home mom for nearly ten years, and before that, my experience was strictly in office jobs. I had zero background in running a business. But something in me said, “Why not just try?” So I started small — offering porch pickups for locals from my home.

The real turning point came when the owner of Juice Ranch discovered my mallows and wanted to carry them in their stores. That opportunity gave me the first big push and opened my eyes to the potential of what I had created. From there, I made a commitment to say yes to every possibility that came my way. Every pop-up invite, I went. I carried boxes of super mallows wherever I went — doctor appointments, hair appointments — handing them out to whoever would try them. I gave samples to employees at shops, donated whenever I could, and shared my product with complete strangers simply because I believed in it.

Eventually, demand grew so much that I outgrew my home kitchen and moved into a commercial space — something I never imagined myself doing when this all began.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges has been that this is my first time building a business, so every step has been a learning experience. There has been a lot of trial and error, but I’ve learned that every obstacle is an opportunity to adapt, find a solution, and keep believing in what you’re creating.

Another challenge has been educating customers about our product. Because Super Mallows are made with clean, organic ingredients and no preservatives, they need to be refrigerated and naturally have a shorter shelf life than conventional marshmallows. It’s different from what people are used to, but it’s a tradeoff I’m proud of because it reflects our commitment to quality and real ingredients.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think what truly makes Super Mallows unique is the heart behind it. These aren’t just marshmallows — they’re intentionally crafted, made with clean ingredients, and born from a desire to nourish rather than compromise. Every part of the business has been built slowly, organically, and authentically. I’ve grown it one conversation, one pop-up, one box handed out to a stranger at a time.
I want people to know that this brand was built with love, with family at the center, and with a genuine desire to offer something better. What started as a treat for my kids has turned into a way for me to connect with my community, to model courage and dedication for my children, and to create a product that brings joy to so many people.

This business is a reminder — to me, to my family, and hopefully to others — that beautiful things can grow from simply saying “yes,” even when you’re scared, and even when you feel unqualified.

And that sometimes, a marshmallow can be more than a treat. It can be the start of a life you never thought you’d have.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
What I’m truly proud of isn’t just the growth of the business — it’s the growth in me. I’m naturally an introvert, and this journey has pushed me far outside my comfort zone. It has forced me to put myself out there, be vulnerable, try new things, and believe in myself in ways I never had before.

It means a lot that my children get to witness this transformation. They’ve only ever known me as their stay-at-home mom, and now they see me as a business owner — someone who works hard, learns through challenges, and keeps moving forward. They help with little odds and ends for the business, and I love that they’re learning what real work ethic looks like, the same way I did growing up sweeping floors and doing reception work in my mom’s salon.

And I absolutely couldn’t do this without my husband. He’s a firefighter, and when he’s home, we work as a team. We brainstorm ideas together, troubleshoot, and support each other through every stage. He’s my biggest cheerleader, and having him by my side makes the business even more meaningful to me.
