Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Meltzer.
Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started as a U cut Rose farm. Last fall we purchased the only other you cut Rose farm in our county making us owners of both you cut Rose farms available in the central Coast area in fact in all of northern California. We purchased our second location, Birdsong orchards in October. Not only did that have a thriving you cut Rose farm but also hundreds of heritage fruit trees. We are now turning the farm 2B regenerative and finding ways to get our delicious organic fruit to our community through markets, you pick, experiences
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been smooth. It is incredibly difficult to farm organically and be successful. Additionally, we have had damage from deer that set us back months from opening this year at our Aptos location. Major challenge being my husband and I are the only full-time employees.
As you know, we’re big fans of Birdsong Orchards Cabrillo Cottage Farms. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in you, cut flower experiences, and you pick fruit. We have field trips, corporate retreats, private events.Etc We hold community events like Kids vendor fairs and free story times. We are the place to come if you would like un sprayed delicious organic heirloom fruit of all kinds. We are the only place to pick figs, walnuts, persimmons, different things like that.
