Marissa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I became a licensed esthetician in 2014 with a passion for helping people feel confident in their skin. Early in my career, I realized that skincare is about so much more than appearance. When someone feels good about their skin, it can positively impact so many areas of their life.
After gaining experience in the industry and developing a strong focus on corrective skincare, I opened SLO Skin Studio in 2019. My goal was to create a space where clients could receive results-driven treatments while feeling genuinely cared for and supported throughout their skincare journey.
Over the years, I’ve specialized in treating acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and age-management concerns, combining professional treatments with customized home care plans to help clients achieve lasting results. What started as a solo practice has grown into a larger studio, and I continue to invest in advanced education and treatments to provide the best possible experience for my clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Over the years, I’ve navigated changes in business structure, staffing, and even physical location. There have been seasons of growth and expansion, as well as times when I had to make difficult decisions and rethink what was best for the future of the business. Rebuilding after major changes wasn’t easy, but it taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of trusting the process.
As you know, we’re big fans of SLO Skin Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
SLO Skin Studio is a results-driven skincare studio specializing in acne and corrective skincare. While we treat a variety of concerns, including hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and age-management, helping clients clear their acne and regain their confidence has always been one of my greatest passions.
What sets us apart is our approach. In an industry that is constantly chasing the latest trends, equipment, and product launches, I believe in staying grounded in what actually works. I’m not interested in offering every new treatment that hits the market. Instead, I carefully choose treatments, technology, and skincare lines that align with my values and genuinely benefit my clients. My focus has always been on education, consistency, and creating personalized treatment plans that deliver long-term results.
I’m also passionate about creating an experience that goes beyond skincare. While achieving healthy skin is the goal, I want clients to feel cared for from the moment they walk through the door. SLO Skin Studio is designed to be a place where people can step away from the stress of everyday life, relax, reset their nervous system, and invest in themselves for an hour or two.
What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built within our community. Many of our clients have been with us for years, and there is no greater compliment than having someone trust you with both their skin and their confidence. At the end of the day, I want people to know that we’re here to provide honest recommendations, personalized care, and real results, not just sell the latest trend.
What makes you happy?
What has always kept me motivated is my clients. While I love helping people achieve healthier skin, I also love creating a space where they can slow down, take a break from the demands of everyday life, and focus on themselves. Being able to provide a safe, welcoming environment where clients can relax, reset their nervous system, and leave feeling refreshed is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
