Exploring Life & Business with Stacey Whitman of Pampavanna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Whitman.

Hi Stacey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a native Texan with a background in genetics and healthcare management. While I find a great deal of purpose and fulfillment in my career, I have always been drawn to entrepreneurship and the idea of creating something from the ground up. I wanted the opportunity to explore a completely different path that would push me to learn new skills, take risks, and see firsthand what I could create.

After meeting and marrying my husband, Germán, who is originally from Argentina, we often talked about the idea of starting a business together. He shared my interest in entrepreneurship and encouraged me to finally pursue something I had considered for years. Together, we decided to take the leap and create Pampavanna.

The name Pampavanna grew out of our two backgrounds and became a way to bring a piece of each of us into the brand. “Pampa” was inspired by the Pampas of Argentina, while “vanna” came from our home in Savannah, Texas. It was a way to connect our roots from two grasslands. The pampas grass in our logo was a natural extension of that story and gave it a visual identity.

When we started thinking about what Pampavanna would become, we knew we wanted to create products that were useful, well made, and stylish. The kitchen felt like a natural place to start because it is a space we use every day, and even small improvements can make it feel more organized and functional. We began with magnetic knife holders and cutting boards, focusing on everyday products that could serve a purpose without sacrificing design. We are still very much at the beginning of the journey, but our hope is to continue adding products over time and eventually grow Pampavanna beyond the kitchen and into a broader home and lifestyle brand.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We knew from the beginning that starting a business would come with challenges, so we spent a significant amount of time researching the market and evaluating actual data before selecting our products. That research gave us confidence that there was demand and helped guide many of our early choices. We quickly learned, however, that identifying a good product and building a business around it are two very different things.

Some of our initial expectations changed once we brought our products to market. What became evident was that there are variables that are difficult to fully anticipate through research alone, particularly when it comes to pricing, marketing, and reaching customers in a competitive online marketplace. We have had to learn where to invest our resources, what resonates with customers, and when it makes sense to adjust our approach.

Despite those challenges, seeing consistent sales across different platforms has been incredibly rewarding. When orders started coming in almost every day, it validated the research behind our product choices and gave us confidence in what we had created. Seeing that preparation translate into real customer interest was an important milestone for us.

Perhaps the most valuable lesson has been recognizing the importance of adaptability. No matter how much you plan, there will always be things you can only learn once you are actually operating a business. We have a much better understanding today of our customers and what it takes to grow Pampavanna than we did when we started.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pampavanna?
Pampavanna is an e-commerce home and kitchen brand focused on products that balance function and style. We are intentional about the products we develop and pay close attention to the details that shape how they look, perform, and fit into everyday life.

When developing our magnetic knife holder, versatility was one of our priorities. We considered how it could work across different spaces, uses, and installation preferences. We chose classic finishes that could complement a variety of settings while introducing gunmetal as a more contemporary option. We also prioritized strong magnets and durable materials because quality and performance were equally important factors. We took a similar approach with our cutting board, selecting teak for its durability, natural properties, and suitability for everyday use, while also choosing a design that could add warmth and character to the kitchen.

We give the same level of attention to how we present Pampavanna. From the beginning, we wanted the brand to have a distinct personality rather than feel like a faceless e-commerce business. Germán leads much of our marketing and creates campaigns that place our products within a broader story, drawing inspiration from home, travel, food, and the landscapes that influenced the Pampavanna identity. Our goal is to create imagery that reflects that character while still keeping the products and their practical purpose at the center.

What I am most proud of is seeing the different elements of Pampavanna come together into a cohesive brand. There is a connection between the products we develop, the story behind our name, and the way we present them to customers. Whether that connection comes through the details of a product, the setting of a photograph, or the inspiration behind a campaign, we want each piece to contribute to a brand that feels warm, personal, and recognizable.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I have always enjoyed learning, and I tend to be someone who is constantly exploring a new subject. I usually listen to one or two audiobooks a month, with topics ranging from Christian faith and history to finance, health, and travel. What interests me often changes depending on what I am trying to understand or improve at the time.

Although I earned my MBA and appreciate the broad foundation it gave me in business, I have found tremendous value in learning from experts who have distilled years of experience into key insights. I enjoy finding resources that allow me to build on what I already know or explore a subject in greater depth. When I want a more comprehensive, structured introduction to a topic, I turn to Udemy for courses that can give me a solid overview relatively quickly. This was particularly useful when I needed to better understand accounting practices specific to e-commerce.

For me, learning has never really been limited to a classroom or a particular stage of life. There is always another subject to explore or another skill to develop, and I genuinely enjoy that process.
