Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Fuentez.
Hi Thomas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My career in construction began at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where I studied Construction Management. After graduating, I gained hands-on experience managing a wide range of residential and commercial projects and developed a strong understanding of what it takes to bring a project from the initial plans through completion.
Eventually, my wife, Kaitlyn, and I decided to start Fuentez Construction, Inc. We wanted to build a company centered on strong relationships, clear communication, and quality craftsmanship. Since then, we’ve been fortunate to take on increasingly complex projects throughout the Central Coast, ranging from residential construction to large-scale commercial work.
Our growth has been very organic and largely driven by referrals, relationships, and the trust of our clients and subcontractors. We’re proud of how far the company has come, but we remain focused on the same goal we started with: doing excellent work, treating people well, and building a business and reputation that will last.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape who we are as a company. After graduating from Cal Poly, we spent several years in Los Angeles, where we were able to gain valuable experience in the construction industry. Coming back to the Central Coast as a family and starting Fuentez Construction, Inc. meant building something from the ground up in a community we knew and loved, but also entering the market as a new company.
One of the biggest challenges was establishing new relationships and building trust within the local construction community. We have had to develop relationships with subcontractors, vendors, clients, and other industry professionals while proving who we were and the quality of work we were capable of providing. That process takes time, and we’ve learned that strong relationships are truly the foundation of a successful business.
Looking back, those challenges have been some of the most rewarding parts of the journey. They’ve pushed us to stay consistent, work hard, and build Fuentez Construction, Inc. on a reputation of quality, integrity, and relationships. We’re proud to be back on the Central Coast, raising our family here and growing a company that we hope will become a lasting part of the community.

Fuentez Construction, Inc. is a Central Coast-based construction company specializing in high-quality commercial and residential construction (commercial developments/multi-family developments, custom homes and remodels). We take pride in bringing a thoughtful, hands-on approach to every project, whether we’re building a new home or new community.
What sets us apart is the importance we place on relationships and the experience we create for our clients throughout the entire process. Construction can be a major investment and, at times, overwhelming, so we strive to make the experience as seamless, transparent, and enjoyable as possible. We would like to argue that we are the most transparent company on the Central Coast. We work closely with our clients, subcontractors, and design partners to make sure every detail is thoughtfully executed and that the finished product reflects the vision of the homeowner.
We’re especially proud of the brand we’ve built. For us, the brand represents more than just beautiful craftsmanship—it represents trust, integrity, attention to detail, and doing what we say we’re going to do. We want our clients to feel that they’re working with a team that genuinely cares about their home and their experience.
Being a family-owned business is also a big part of who we are. We’re proud to be building our company here on the Central Coast, the place we chose to return to and raise our family. Our goal is to build beautiful, lasting spaces while also building lasting relationships within the community. Ultimately, we want Fuentez Construction, Inc. to be known for quality work, strong relationships, and a level of care that makes the entire building experience feel personal and intentional.

What matters most to us are people. We genuinely care about the people we work with, the relationships we build, and the impact we have on those around us. That’s something we try to carry into every part of our lives, not just our business.
For us, it is is about more than building projects. It’s about building relationships and treating people with the same level of care, respect, and honesty that we would want for ourselves. We want our clients, subcontractors, and everyone we work alongside to feel valued, heard, and respected throughout the process.
That mindset is something we carry into our personal lives as well. We believe that how you treat people matters, regardless of whether you’re at work, at home, or simply going about your day. At the end of the day, the homes we build are important, but the people we meet and the relationships we build along the way are what mean the most to us.
