Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Suafoa.
Hi Beth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In 2012, I started working at a small, private preschool as an after school assistant. I worked my way up in the company… adding Early Childhood to my education so that I could have my own class, taking on administrative tasks and becoming Assistant Director and then Director.
I met Robin in 2014. We were assigned to co-teach in the two year old class. We worked very well together and became great friends. We kept in touch even after she left the school.
In 2016, I went on maternity leave and could not think of a better person to fill my role as director than Robin. She returned as interim director while I was out.
After returning, Robin & I helped the owner of the school open a second preschool nearby. I stayed to run the original school and Robin ran the new school.
We both unfortunately had to leave when COVID hit. The owner later reached out to me with the offer to purchase the original school. Once again, I could not think of a better person to jump into this venture with than Robin.
In July 2021, Carousel Montessori Preschool was born!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The second wave of COVID caught us off guard and we had to make adjustments but we got through it.
We are currently struggling with the State’s addition of Transitional Kindergarten. It has taken a large number of our usual enrollments.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our location has been a preschool for over thirty years. Families return with younger siblings. We’ve even had a second generation student, whose Mom had once attended!
Our open concept preschool allows all of our teachers to have relationships with every student. It allows us to support each other and also to hold each other accountable.
We love our Carousel Community and consider our students and their loved ones our family. We’re proud to be a top-rated preschool in Camarillo.
