Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Stinchfield.
Hi Laura, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
## My Story
I am The Pet Psychic®. For as long as I can remember, I have been able to hear animals’ thoughts and feel their emotions.
I grew up on a horse farm in Upper Westchester County, New York. In the 1980s, it was still common for people to swat a dog with a newspaper for going to the bathroom in the house or punish a horse for refusing a jump. I could never understand it. I could feel that sometimes the dog was sick, or the horse was in pain or afraid. To me, the reason behind their behavior seemed obvious.
It was not until my early twenties that I realized other people did not understand what animals were thinking and feeling as easily as I did.
Once I understood that I was different, I became obsessed with studying consciousness, animal behavior, healing, and the human animal bond. I pretty much did it all. I owned a pet sitting, dog hiking, and animal training business in Montecito. I worked as an animal Reiki healer, volunteered in kill shelters, and worked with rescue groups.
I became a student of the animal.
In the early 2000s, I realized I could help far more animals and people by working full time as an animal communicator. Today, I work with people and their animals all over the world. I help families understand behavior, navigate illness and difficult decisions, and reconnect with their animals in the afterlife.
I have dedicated my life to helping people discover how deep their connection with animals truly is. I have written two books, *Voices of the Animals* and *Stormy’s Words of Wisdom*, and this fall I am releasing courses that teach people how to communicate with their living animals and connect with their animals in the afterlife.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My greatest challenge has been learning how not to become debilitated by the amount of suffering animals endure.
I have felt their pain in my own body and heard stories that would break anyone’s heart. For a long time, I was exhausted and stressed. Anyone who is highly empathic can probably relate.
There was also a period when I felt guilty being happy when so many animals and people were suffering. I struggled tremendously with boundaries around my time. There will always be someone who needs help, and I carried that responsibility very heavily.
Eventually, I realized that being depleted did not make me more helpful.
I had to make being present in my own life a priority. I learned to spend more time in nature, do the things I love, and allow myself to experience joy without guilt.
The more I expand my own joy and gratitude for the beauty of life, the more energy, clarity, strength, and stability I have when I am helping others.
That may be one of the greatest lessons this work has taught me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am dedicated to helping people connect more deeply with their animals and trust their own intuition.
Animals send me thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, images, and sometimes memories. My mind translates that information into words.
I often tell people to think of me as a translator and therapist for animals.
People come to me for all kinds of reasons. They may want to understand a behavioral issue, a health concern, a rescued animal’s past, an emotional problem, an end of life decision, or what their animal needs to feel happier and more secure.
I also communicate with animals who have passed into Spirit.
Animals are conscious, wise, emotional, and incredibly funny. They often understand the dynamics within their families, relationships, and even their people’s work lives in ways that genuinely shock people.
And they are trying to communicate with us.
Part of my work now is teaching people how to slow down enough to listen, trust what they receive, and feel confident in their own connection.
Over the years, my work has expanded beyond private sessions into books, teaching, podcasting, YouTube, intuitive coaching, and courses, but the heart of it remains the same: helping people realize just how extraordinary the animals in their lives really are.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have had many teachers throughout my life.
Carol Gurney was one of the most influential. She taught me to believe in my animal communication abilities and gave me a very practical, down to earth system for communicating with animals and their people. Over the years, I developed my own method, but I will always be grateful for that beginning.
Linda Tellington Jones and Robyn Hood, through their work with Tellington TTouch, profoundly influenced the way I understand animal behavior, physical awareness, and how animals learn. They taught me to release judgment and meet every being exactly where they are.
Dr. Joe Dispenza and the Monroe Institute have both been influential in my spiritual development. Their teachings and practices have helped me strengthen my psychic boundaries, deepen my understanding of consciousness, and learn how to take care of my own energy so I can be more present and effective in my work.
My parents were mentors in another way. They allowed virtually every animal I brought home, from parakeet to pony, to stay. The ferret was the one exception. More importantly, they never told me I was not talking to the animals.
And, of course, my greatest mentors have always been the animals themselves.
My cat Juliett taught me that animals really are listening when she stopped running away after I asked her to.
My German Shepherd Lala taught me about the afterlife when I felt her fly through me as she left her body and showed me how beautiful that transition could be.
My dog Maia taught me about resilience.
And every animal I have known has taught me something about presence, honesty, intuition, forgiveness, grief, death, humor, resilience, and unconditional love.
Mostly, they have taught me just how extraordinary animals really are.
After more than thirty years of doing this work, I am still learning from them.
