Hi Keomi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Keomi Blackshire, and I am the founder of Bouquets by Dollhouse, a floral business based in Sacramento, California. My journey into entrepreneurship began while working as a preschool teacher. Although I loved working with children, I always had a passion for creativity, design, and creating meaningful experiences for others.
What started as making bouquets quickly grew into something much bigger. I realized flowers have a unique way of bringing people together and helping them celebrate life’s most important moments. That passion inspired me to build a brand focused not only on beautiful floral arrangements, but also on creating memorable experiences through custom designs, intimate setups, events, and personalized service.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been opening my storefront. What I expected to be a straightforward process turned into months of construction delays, permit revisions, and unexpected setbacks that pushed my opening date back several times. There were moments when it felt like every time one issue was resolved, another would appear.
Balancing entrepreneurship while working full-time as a preschool teacher also required a great deal of discipline and sacrifice. Building a business takes time, patience, and financial commitment, and there were many days when I had to continue showing up for my students while also working on my business after hours.
Despite the challenges, I have learned the importance of resilience, adaptability, and trusting the process. Every obstacle has strengthened my determination and reminded me why I started Bouquets by Dollhouse in the first place. Looking back, those challenges have helped shape me into a stronger business owner and leader.
