Life & Work with Kelli Poist of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Poist.

Hi Kelli , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started teaching Pilates in 2002, at a studio in Los Olivos. I went in for one introductory session and signed up for teacher training the next day. I instantly fell in love with the Pilates method.
As I began teaching and practicing Pilates on a regular basis I felt the benefits in my own body. My touchy lower back that would go out randomly, no longer gave me any trouble. My shoulders that were overworked from years on the swim team became more balanced and pain free.
I moved to San Luis Obispo and over the next 15 years or so I taught at various studios and health clubs. Both large and small groups.
My dream was always to have my own studio. I finally got that chance last year when I took over as owner of North County Pilates in Atascadero.
Located in downtown Atascadero inside a 100 year old brick building that once served as the original fire station in town.
North County Pilates has been in business for 20 years, we have an amazing group of clients. It is a friendly, welcoming, supportive environment.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In the end it all worked out exactly perfect, but getting there wasn’t always easy. I wanted to teach more than I was able to when my 4 boys were young. I always taught 2-3 classes a week, but really wanted to be teaching full time.
But I am glad I took the opportunity to stay home with my boys, and I landed in exactly the perfect spot in the end.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Pilates instructor. I teach both group classes and private sessions.
I love teaching people new to Pilates, I guess that’s my specialty.
I love watching their faces light up when they find the right connections.
I am known for being very detailed in my teaching, and for having the ability to teach people the true method of Pilates.
My 25 years of experience and my passion for Pilates sets me apart from most instructors.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
All my wonderful clients over the years have been my biggest cheerleaders, and promoters. And this business wouldn’t be possible without my amazing team of instructors.
My fellow instructors showed me so much love and support when I took over as owner. They continue to support me by always recommending my studio to potential new clients.
