Today we’d like to introduce you to Moriah Brown.
Hi Moriah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in East LA as a second-generation Mexican American, raised alongside my grandparents, who immigrated to the U.S. from Guadalajara and Monterrey, Mexico. My mom is a first-generation Mexican American, and my dad grew up in West LA, so I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by both cultures. I attended a bilingual pre-school, speak English and Spanish, and was introduced to the arts at a very young age.
I started in entertainment as a child. Around 3 or 4, I was doing print work for brands like Disney and Mattel, and by kindergarten I was performing folklórico, traditional Mexican dance, with live mariachi. That was when I first realized how much I loved being onstage. Around seven, I did background work on *Stuart Little*, and I somehow wandered into Geena Davis’s trailer with a bunch of other kids 😂. She was getting her makeup done, and I remember thinking, “Wait…this is her job? I want to be an actress too!” She was so sweet and even let me sit on her lap. I never forgot it.
I continued auditioning until around 12, when my family had to step me away from acting because life got busy. After high school, I found my way back into entertainment through modeling, e-commerce and print work and commercials. I eventually started working with ModCloth, and when I realized I was making more money through creative work than I was at my nine-to-five, I took a leap of faith, moved to the San Fernando Valley and decided to pursue acting full-time.
From there, I just kept auditioning and building. I tested for projects like *The Get Down* with Baz Luhrmann, *Our Kind of People*, where Morris Chestnut would have played my dad, and *All American* on Fox. Testing for *The Get Down* was especially memorable because I was flown to New York, got to meet Baz, and even sang with him at the piano. (He asked me to sit on top of his piano and GO THERE!) it was magical. Those experiences really confirmed for me that I was on the right path. Not long after, I booked my first recurring role on Netflix’s *Raising Dion*.
Since then, I’ve gone on to work across television, film and commercials, including *Power Book II: Ghost*, Tyler Perry’s *The Six Triple Eight*, and my first leading role in *Safeword*, a Tubi original and so much more. I’ve also continued working on new television projects, and I’m excited for what’s still to come out and premiere!
I’m incredibly grateful for how far I’ve come, and I’m even more excited about what’s ahead.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey definitely hasn’t been a straight line, but working in entertainment has always found its way back to me. Acting is an industry where you can book a series regular role one year and still be auditioning nonstop the next, so I learned early on that I couldn’t build my life around waiting for the next yes. That uncertainty is what pushed me to build other income streams alongside acting, but building a business while also being an actress comes with its own learning curve. I had to teach myself how to run a company, manage partnerships, and show up consistently online, all while still training, auditioning, and staying ready for whatever role came next.
There were definitely stretches where it felt like too much at once, juggling content creation, brand partnerships, and building my LovingTheTribe Events while still treating acting as the priority it’s always been for me. But every one of those struggles ended up teaching me something about resilience and about building a career on my own terms instead of waiting for permission. Looking back, I wouldn’t want it to have been smooth, because the harder parts are what shaped how I work today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actress, content creator, and entrepreneur based in LA. On the acting side, I’m best known for my series regular role on Power Book: Ghost on STARZ, and for my role in The Six Triple Eight, the NAACP winning Netflix film. Alongside acting, I create UGC and branded content for companies, bringing real performance and storytelling into every piece so it feels like a genuine moment rather than an advertisement.
I also just finished my ebook, ActorFlow, an eight chapter digital download packed with interactive trackers that help actors stay in tune with themselves, covering everything from their mindset and energy to their income and goals, so they can structure their days accordingly and get things done without burning out. It’s something I built from my own experience figuring out how to show up consistently in this industry in a way that still feels true to who I am. I haven’t fully launched it marketing wise yet, but it’s sitting quietly on my link tree until I’m ready to build out a real presence for it!
This year marks my seventh year running LovingTheTribe Events, a community and women’s empowerment platform where I partner with brands, especially women owned businesses, to showcase their products to a room of women I personally invite every year. It’s become one of the things I’m proudest of, since it lets me use my platform for something bigger than my own career.
Honestly, it’s not always easy. Some months I’m fully immersed in one project and have to catch myself being inconsistent in another, so it’s a real balancing act between acting, content, ActorFlow, and LovingTheTribe. But I genuinely love the process of learning how to master it all. So much more to come, my ideas are endless. The combination of craft, business, and community isn’t something most people are doing all together, I think it’s what makes my perspective different.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
So many people have played a role in getting me here. My dad has been endlessly supportive of everything I do, from LovingTheTribe Events to producing my first film this year, and along with my grandparents, who show up to every event, I truly don’t know what I’d do without them. My best friend Jen, who’s been like a sister since we were college roommates, has cheered me through every role I’ve ever booked.
On the business side, Justine Monae keeps my brand partnerships running week to week, and my manager Van Johnson and agent Todd Maginn have kept me working consistently for the last five years, they’re like sharks going after the bag, and I’m endlessly grateful for it. I want to thank everyone who’s volunteered their time on my projects, and above all my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, without whom none of this would be possible.
In the acting world specifically, I owe a lot to Margie Haber for our one on ones, casting director Phaedra Harris, and Tasha Smith, who once called me personally before a test audition just to wish me luck. Those small moments give you exactly the nudge you need when you least expect it, and at the end of the day, none of this happens without the people who truly have my heart.
