Life & Work with Sara Taylor of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Taylor.

Hi Sara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I come from a lifetime inside the medical field as the daughter of an RN, years in behavioral health, coordinating patient care. Then in 2010 I lost my husband, and western medicine’s role in that loss broke something in me. What I’d always trusted no longer felt safe.
What followed was an extended season of grief and dysregulation. My trust in conventional medicine was lost, and I found myself desperately searching for ways to restore my body and spirit. I wanted a deeper holistic experience to heal myself. I found this in naturopathic awareness, through nutrition, Ayurveda, herbalism, and market farming. I even traveled to a Blue Zone in Costa Rica to study how others lived long, vital lives. Every modality became an essential tool in my toolbox. But the real shift came when I learned how our body holds our hardest experiences, and how that stagnation manifests in dis-ease, unhealthy attachment, addiction, isolation, and depression.
My toolbox was heavy with knowledge from everything I’d gathered, and I wanted to offer it to my community and become a place where people could fall when life brought them to a halt.
I believe the world moves in mysterious ways. Even the smallest openness reveals the path you were meant for. Mine arrived at a dog park, mid-conversation with a stranger and her wolf dogs, while I was earning my drug and alcohol certification and caring for my mother in her final months. That conversation led me to Dr. Angela Martin-King. I spent the next year in her care, working through my own stagnation and the weight of everything I’d lost.
Where I believe deeply in the value of talk therapy, as it gave me language and insight I still carry, through my own experience, that talking alone couldn’t reach what my body was still holding. If the physical manifestations of trauma go unaddressed, the work stays incomplete.
Since then, I’ve trained under Dr. Angela Martin-King in NEST — Neuro Emotional Somatic Trust, and the spinal wave technique. NEST moves beyond cognitive, talk-based work to reach stored stress at the root. Our bodies already know how to recover and heal themselves. They just need a safe place to be seen and held. NEST clicked for me and became the foundation of my practice.
Vital Earth Living actually began years earlier, as a farm box subscription business I built on my five-acre farm in Arroyo Grande. My intention was to share the restorative power of sustainably grown food, and to bring awareness not only to our broken food system, but to how the earth itself can regulate our physical and mental state. As I deepened my training in drug and alcohol counseling and met Dr. Angela Martin-King, my calling came into focus, and I pivoted the business into what it is today. What started as a farm box under that same name evolved into a full somatic coaching practice once I saw where my real impact could be made.
From there, I built the Rooted Resilience Method™, my signature six-week protocol, integrating NEST throughout. I see myself as a teacher and a guide. I bring body awareness through the six-week coaching series, using NEST to gently cultivate consciousness and safety in the places of the body where tension is held. I guide my clients to release that stored stress to allow flow to return to the nervous system through grounding practices.
Now, alongside my one-on-one coaching work, I’m co-leading SoulFire Rising Retreats with Dr. Martin-King three times a year — our next one at Mount Shasta in October. I’m currently based in Grover Beach on the Central Coast, working on a remote program to bring my trauma-informed practice to more of the world.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggles along the way were simple in some ways and hard in every other way. Grief happens. Trauma doesn’t stop after one blow, it can keep coming, wave after wave, before you even catch your breath from the last one. Through all of it, I had to keep believing in myself, that I would find a way to use everything in my toolbox, and that I would be seen for the whole journey, the training, and the experience I carried. What drove me most was wanting so desperately to help others, so they wouldn’t fall through the cracks of their own dis-ease the way I once did.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the founder of Vital Earth Living, a trauma-informed somatic practice based in Grover Beach, on California’s Central Coast. My work is a culmination of two paths: my professional experience in the healthcare industry and my lived experience in healing and nervous system recovery.

I specialize in nervous system regulation through the body, not just through insight. I trained directly with Dr. Angela Martin-King in NEST, Neuro Emotional Somatic Trust, and the spinal wave technique, which moves beyond cognitive, talk-based approaches to reach where stress and trauma actually live in the body. From that training, I built my signature offering, the Rooted Resilience Method, a six-week somatic protocol integrating NEST across every session.

What I’m known for is giving people a safe place and meeting them where their story lives in the body, gently bringing consciousness and safety to the places where tension is held. I help them move the stagnation so the nervous system can find flow again through grounding practices.

What I’m most proud of is that this practice didn’t come from a textbook. It came from my own grief, my own stagnation, and years of searching for something that could reach what talk therapy alone couldn’t touch. Losing my husband and later caring for my mother showed me what it is to feel life halt you completely. I built this practice to be the place I once needed myself, a place people can fall when everything stops, and be seen for everything they are carrying.

What sets me apart is that I’m not offering theory. I’m offering a toolbox built from my own lived path, held by someone who has walked through the stagnation herself and found her way back into her body. I’m also offering integration of these tools through NEST and the physical awareness it brings. Clients aren’t just getting a technique; they’re getting someone who understands, from the inside, what it takes to find their way back and feel safe enough in their bodies to keep meeting whatever life brings next.

I also offer PEMF sessions. I integrate PEMF with the iMRS Prime Hybrid PEMF system, using it as a practice that supports the nervous system’s own capacity to recalibrate and restore, especially alongside the somatic work we do together. Where NEST helps release what the body is holding, PEMF supports the deeper cellular and energetic environment for that restoration to keep happening between sessions.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Dr. Angela Martin King resides in Ontario, Canada – she has been my guide, cheerleader, and mentor, helping me see my own innate self-healing ability and teaching me the NEST technique to bring to my own practice.

Angela Sarah North of Wild Beauty Ayurveda is here on the Central Coast and has taught me Ayurvedic practices that have expanded my holistic lifestyle. She also teaches a 9-month herbalism course I will be attending this September. Another expanded tool for the toolbox.

My son Lucas Taylor has been my biggest cheerleader. He’s not only a USFS firefighter but a photographer, surfer, model, and motorcycle enthusiast. Check him out @thelucastaylor on Instagram.

Jenny Wallace- my best friend and sister from another mister- is an inspiration, cancer survivor, and owner of Muddy Paws in Arroyo Grande. She has seen me through some dark times and always been there. As my late husband would say…she’s a NO MATTER WHAT kinda friend.
