Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer DeMoss.
Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been in the wellness industry since my very first job in high school at a skin and body care boutique, where my passion for this field first began. After earning my esthetician license in 2005, I went on to work at destination spas throughout California and Hawaii, gaining invaluable experience in both results-driven treatments and elevated client care.
When I eventually settled on the Central Coast and fell in love with the community of Pacific Grove, I felt inspired to create something of my own. Amara was born from a vision to bring together all of my favorite aspects of the spas I had worked in—a place where science-backed technology and results-oriented products are thoughtfully paired with the healing power of human touch to create a truly unique wellness experience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many in the wellness industry, one of our greatest challenges was navigating COVID. The uncertainty during shutdowns and social distancing created a difficult and unpredictable period, especially for an industry so rooted in personal connection and care.
Coming out of that experience, it only reinforced something we had always believed: the profound importance of human touch. Even as wellness continues to evolve with incredible technology and science-backed treatments, COVID reminded us that genuine human connection and touch remain essential to healing, restoration, and overall well-being.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Amara by the sea?
Since 2020, the spa industry has evolved faster than ever. New wellness technologies and changing guest expectations have pushed us to think differently about care.
Myself, along with the Amara team believe the next wave of innovation isn’t about high-tech tools alone, it’s about personalization and human experience.
We are now experimenting with hybrid rituals that combine science and serenity: digital diagnostics paired with customized massage or facial work, infrared therapy followed by aromatherapy meditation. These experiences soothe the body and calm the mind at the same time.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a blend of both nurturing and ambitious. I was naturally caring, but also very driven and detail-oriented. I’ve always been fascinated by the connection between how we feel physically, emotionally, and mentally. I was drawn to beauty, wellness, and science from an early age, and I think that curiosity eventually evolved into a passion for creating experiences that help people feel both cared for and transformed.
