Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Allen.
Hi Lisa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Floral design started as a creative outlet for me. I loved experimenting with different flowers, colors, and textures. The more I designed, the more I wanted to learn. And I realized that when you have a passion for something, pursuing knowledge doesn’t feel like a burden. It’s fun!
I believe that flowers are one of the many earthly gifts God has given us. They can transform a space, mark a moment, and make people feel something. My faith is an important part of the story behind Dulce Blooms because of how profoundly God has transformed my own life.
Before I gave my life to Jesus, I was caught up in drugs, alcohol, and a lifestyle that left me unfulfilled. In 2007, God renewed my spirit and began the lifelong process of refining and transforming me. My life is a testimony to His grace.
That transformation shapes how I want to live and what I want to give to others through Dulce Blooms. I want the beauty and love God has poured into my life to come through in what I create for others.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I came to floral design from a career in corporate marketing, and stepping into an entirely new industry can be challenging. At the same time, one of the most interesting parts of building Dulce Blooms has been discovering how naturally my business skills translate.
In marketing, we think deeply about the audience we’re trying to reach: understanding them, listening for what matters, and creating a unique experience around how they interact with a brand.
I approach floral design the same way. Flowers communicate, too. A color can evoke a feeling, a particular variety can reflect someone’s personality, and the overall design can completely change how a space or moment is experienced.
The way I see it, I’m applying my professional experience in an entirely new and creative way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Dulce Blooms is a boutique floral studio in San Diego that creates for special events, weddings, and corporate and brand experiences. I also have a few select clients with floral subscriptions.
My style is romantic, organic, and a little unexpected in texture, shape, or color. I love it when someone asks, “What flower is that?!”
What sets me apart is the combination of creativity and strategy I bring to the work. I naturally think about the entire experience: not just the flowers, but the setting, the audience, and how we want them to feel.
I’m most proud of building something that allows me to create for other people. It is incredibly rewarding to start with an idea, bring it to life with my own hands, and then see someone experience it.
That’s ultimately what I want Dulce Blooms to be about: creating something beautiful, thoughtful, and personal for the people I have the opportunity to serve.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that I don’t have to have everything figured out before I move forward. Nobody does!
There is always more to learn. Confidence grows from doing the work, not waiting until you feel completely ready.
I don’t have to see the entire path before I take the next step. I can trust God with where He is leading me, work hard at the opportunities He provides, and stay humble enough to keep learning.
