Meet Marissa Martinez of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Martinez.

Hi Marissa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started skating about 20 years ago, grew up in Carson California. I learned how to make skate pants with deep pockets in DTLA about 10 years ago and started my own business. Now I host mama’s game of skate once a month (girls only). I’m filming a skate part and a video to celebrate 10 years in the pants business. Going on tour for the vid aug 9th. I just started school at Paul Mitchell as well, for barbering. My goal is to own a barber/girls skate shop once I finish school.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I lost my mom at 11, my dad last year, and my gma this year.
I’ve been in foster care, homeless, at 21 I got guardian ship of my sisters. I broke my back, spinal (L2) tore my acl, and meniscus skating. All that to say very thankful for everything because those times made me incredibly strong.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I love skateboarding. It’s been challenging and fun paving my own lane. Ive been able to travel the world, meet some of my very best friends thru skating. I’ve worked with Tony Hawk, featured in Forbes. Most def fav part is being able to give back.

What does success mean to you?
