Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Julian.
Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Moon Darling formed in Seattle, WA, and performed heavily for the first few years at venues in the PNW. After the move to Los Angeles, the band continued with Michael Julian, and Eliza Karpel on bass. It was a really natural beginning for us, with our similar tastes, and marching band backgrounds. Recording and releasing the upcoming album, Hearts To Blame, has been an exciting new chapter for us.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Michael: I’d say it’s definitely not been very smooth. It can be pretty challenging at times with so many personalities we connect with, work with, and making music thats so personal for us, Especially working together nearly everyday, recording, writing, grinding, we kinda have to be there for each other through more than making music. All the life stuff that comes up. We both have worked really hard to be where we are right now, and that’s just part of the journey.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We both come from creative backgrounds, and have day jobs in the arts. Michael works in fine art, and Eliza works in fashion, but our true love really lies in creating and performing music. It’s our life force, and something that has always been a core part of who we are.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
There isn’t one recipe, or right or wrong way of approaching art. We’ve learned to let the music serve as a reflection of our inner expression without boundaries.
