Today we’d like to introduce you to Romina Mendoza.
Hi Romina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into wine began through gastronomy. I studied Culinary Arts in Mexico and became fascinated by the way wine connects agriculture, culture, and hospitality. I later worked in wine distribution, where representing wines from lesser-known countries shaped my focus on origin, identity, and the people behind each bottle.
Education gradually became the center of my work. Over the past twelve years, I have taught wine professionals and enthusiasts, developed educational programs, consulted for hospitality businesses, and helped build wine communities. Along the way, I completed the WSET Diploma with Merit—becoming the first person in Baja California to earn the qualification—as well as the Certified Sommelier credential through the Court of Master Sommeliers and several regional specializations. In 2025, I was named Mexico’s Best Sommelier by CANIRAC.
Today, I divide my work between wine education, consulting, and entrepreneurship. I lead RM Wine Club, where I create courses and tasting experiences, and I founded VINTAP, a wine-on-tap company focused on making wine service more efficient and accessible. Across all these projects, my goal remains the same: to communicate wine with depth, without making it feel distant or intimidating.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. One of the greatest challenges has been building a sustainable career in wine outside a traditional restaurant or corporate structure. Creating independent educational programs, consulting, and starting a business have given me freedom, but they have also meant navigating financial uncertainty and constantly creating my own opportunities.
Another challenge has been learning that expertise and recognition do not automatically translate into stability. I have had to develop skills beyond wine—from sales and operations to leadership and entrepreneurship—while continuing to teach and study. There have been moments when I have questioned whether the path was sustainable. Still, those experiences have forced me to become more adaptable and intentional about the career I am building.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
RM Wine Club is a wine education and experiences brand built around curiosity, depth, and thoughtful curation. I create courses, masterclasses, private tastings, and consulting projects for both wine enthusiasts and hospitality professionals.
I specialize in translating complex subjects—terroir, production methods, regional identity, and quality—into experiences that are rigorous without feeling intimidating. Every wine is selected with a purpose: not simply because it is prestigious or expensive, but because it helps tell a story and develop a deeper understanding of the subject.
What sets RM Wine Club apart is the balance between expertise and accessibility. I am most proud of the trust the brand has earned and the community that has grown around it—people who return because they want to keep learning, questioning, and tasting with greater intention.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is seeing someone leave a class more curious and confident than when they arrived—not simply remembering facts, but learning how to think critically about wine. It also means creating a career that allows me to keep learning and build long-term stability without compromising the quality or integrity of my work.
