Hi Susan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Moon Kissed and Moonstone are a culmination of so much that I love!
In addition to being a fun magical mystery store, Moon Kissed has a strong emphasis on stones and crystals. We offer “made by nature” and “living with intention” products. Our emphasis is on diversity and inclusion, and it is important to me that we support the many talented and under represented artisans, authors, and cultural creatives whose passions drive their work. We have been in DT Santa Cruz for over 23 years.
Moonstone in Los Gatos is an extension, or sister store, to Moon Kissed. It is known for museum quality gemstones, unique jewelry and many of the same offering we have at Moon Kissed. We have been in Los Gatos 10 years
My love of stones started at a very early age and has never wavered. The very first purchase I ever made was a rose quartz crystal. I was 4 years old. I’ve been buying them ever since. I have been a small business owner for over 30 years with 23 years in Santa Cruz (love drew me here from NY; love of my partner and love of Santa Cruz!) Very involved in the Santa Cruz Community, my husband and I have hosted many events, parties, gatherings, fire circles, and rituals over the years. Personally I’ve developed my own Crystal divination system and have had some notoriety locally as a psychic tarot reader and astrologer. I am currently working on a book about stones and am always educating myself so that I may bring confidence and knowledge to my customers. It is my goal that every customer leave my shop more uplifted then when they entered.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Obviously Covid was a struggle, as was the 2008 financial crises. We survived 2008 by my making many of the products that today are our best sellers. Covid almost did us in but the community stepped up and purchased gift certificates to be used at a later date. It kept us going.
