Rising Stars: Meet Andrew Kam of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Kam.

Hi Andrew, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am originally from Toronto, Canada. I was always a curious kid, so I jumped around on different instruments throughout my childhood. Ultimately, I fell in love with the guitar. Eventually, music production was the natural route for my curious teenage self, so I started producing a ton, which eventually led me to attend Berklee College of Music. I’ve had some really wonderful opportunities over the years to perform at major venues across both Canada and the US, from Carnegie Hall to South By South West Austin.

Currently, I’ve been residing in LA, working under Grammy-Winning producer Vago Galindo, as well as running my own freelance production & mixing business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not! One thing I always tell myself is, “You can’t have the ups if you never have the downs.” I’m perfectly okay with struggling; learning to navigate, reset, and grow is such an integral part of being a better producer, let alone a better person. When I first moved to LA, it was a little bit of a slow start. Agreeing to projects just for the sake of having work, I found myself losing why I loved doing what I do in the first place. Of course, with all rocky starts, I found my place, started working with Artists and writers who align with my passion, and found a mentor who has taken my professionalism and quality to a new level.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a music producer and mixer who specializes in all things pop music. What sets me apart is my versatility and ability to pivot when needed. Working with my boss, I had the opportunity to produce Latin pop, which was completely left-field for me, but it taught me to adapt and incorporate my own cultural background to create something truly special.
