Rising Stars: Meet Lorin Anderson of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorin Anderson.

Hi Lorin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Lorin Anderson. I have been Surfing for 30 years this year and I grew up here on the central coast. We moved to a ranch near Goleta when I was eight years old from Salt Lake City Utah. I started surfing immediately because when we lived in Utah, we would vacation in California and Surfing seemed like the best thing that anyone on earth could possibly do and there was nothing else I wanted to do besides Surf as an eight year-old my dad and I even had a discussion about me trying to surf in the great Salt Lake when I was around five or six, but it never happened because I think it’s usually completely flat when we moved here I started boogie boarding, and within a few weeks, my parents bought me a surfboard And I was getting slammed the shore at surfer who was an amputee actually came down and called me out of the beach break and took me over to the point where you’re actually supposed to surf and he pushed me into my first wave. That first wave was amazing to say the least , the water was crystal clear it was so fast and I could see all the rocks I was surfing over flying over really and ever since I’ve been completely hooked on the sport of Surfing.
I competed as a gram and I didn’t make a heat for the first two years but when I finally did, I was off to the races made mini finals. I actually won a Volcom contest at Pismo pier when I was 15. I was intent on becoming a professional surfer, however I never tried the tour. I just ended up doing some traveling with friends and also a local photographer Josh Gill we went Indonesia together and I separately went with some of my friends to Costa Rica Puerto Rico Mexico. I graduated from Calvary Chapel, Bible College and Ellen Hancock all I’ll be a professional surfer. I got married at 26 years of age. I was a personal trainer, a grocer, and I finally made my way back to the idea of Surfing For living this time as a father of for after teaching my daughter how to surf. She is seven years old and loves surfing. My wife and I decided it was time to start a surf school. We are sponsored by the steam Surf shop and Pismo Beach, and we specialize and surf lessons of all ages. I have a team of local surfers who are very knowledgeable of the Surf conditions and the form/sport of Surfing itself. We are excited to bring Surfing to the local community. I don’t see a whole lot of Grimes out in the water and , it is my heart to bring Surfing to them and to see kids out in the water shredding getting the natural vitamin D of the sun and progressing in a sport that every Californian should at least try once in their life!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been smooth and the waves have been good

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets us apart from some of the other Surf schools is what we specialize in. We specialize in surf coaching as well as lessons. We are all lifelong surfers and we are intent on bringing Surfing to the local community not just tourists.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Surfing makes me happy because it gets me out in nature and it gives me an insane amount of endorphins
