Hidden Gems: Meet Heather Bond of Trekking Ambassadors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Bond.

Hi Heather, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
At 33 I was on top of the world living a real action hero’s life. My passion to push my physical and mental states led me into the world of extreme sports, careers, and lifestyles. I trained alongside America’s most elite special force teams; Marine Recons, Navy Seals, and Hot Fire Fighters. Being dropped off by a helicopter into a remote region to face a fires fury was exhilarating. I relished in the satisfaction I received while being thrown through a window or being shot in a fight scene as a Hollywood stuntwoman. I had it all until a twist of fate robbed me off my physical prowess and identity. I searched for answers and with my mother by my side we set out on a spiritual journey that landed us both in a West Bengal Indian prison accused of terrorism…Thirteen years later I am a mother, business owner of Bond Fitness and Adventures, author of a book, Athena Rising- A Memoir, and the founder of a non-profit, Trekking Ambassadors. In July and November of 2022, my team and I will be embarking upon two very special missions. In July we will be working with two secondary schools in rural Tanzania to create solar light libraries for the students. On our mission in November, we will be trekking for 25 days through the high remote villages of the Everest region bringing reading glasses and solar goods to the clinics.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When you are striving to create things in your life it’s never a smooth road. I’ve been a single mom for ten years to my 13-year-old daughter. I’ve built my personal training business from the ground up. I had to get rid of the negative naysayers in my life. I’ve had to become a business person and many mistakes have been made along the way. But when you are focused and determined to make something great you persevere.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Trekking Ambassadors is a Santa Barbara-based non-profit. We are a spirited group of former endurance racers and adventurers who are giving back to the world we explore. We trek in supplies to place most people cannot reach by foot. Our missions are based around geography and a need for sustainable supplies, such as solar goods, reading, and sunglasses to name a few. Our two missions for 2022 is called Treks for Light and Sight.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is that I live out my goals dreams and desires while making a positive impact on people I meet along my journey.
