Meet Christin Frederick of Joya Sagrada Family Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christin Frederick.

Hi Christin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path into this work has always been driven by a deep curiosity about how people adapt, how families organize themselves under pressure, and what actually creates lasting change. Early in my career, I saw that many people were receiving care that focused on symptoms without adequately addressing the relational systems and environments they were returning to. That mattered even more when the people in conflict were also tied together by work, money, legacy, and family loyalty.Over time, I became especially drawn to families who own or run businesses together. In those systems, the presenting problem may look operational on the surface—succession conflict, role confusion, decision-making gridlock, or chronic tension—but underneath it are often attachment wounds, old family roles, unresolved grief, authority struggles, and nervous systems that no longer feel safe with one another. I founded Joya Sagrada Family Therapy to o)er clinically grounded care that can work at that deeper level.Today, I am intentionally shaping the practice toward intensive therapy work for family business owners. I help families and leadership teams address the relational fractures beneath business problems so they can rebuild trust, clarify authority, and create structures strong enough to support both a thriving company and a more livable family life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?It de*nitely has not been a smooth road, and one of the biggest challenges has been building a practice around work that does not *t neatly into standard models of care. Family business conict is often treated as a business consulting issue on one side or a family issue on the other, but in reality it is usually both at once. That means the work requires clinical depth, systems thinking, and the willingness to stay with complexity rather than oversimplify it.Another challenge has been holding a clear position in a *eld that often rewards broader messaging. Narrowing the focus of my practice toward intensive therapy for family business owners has required a lot of clarity about what I do best and who I am most equipped to serve. It has also meant trusting that speci*city creates stronger impact. At the same time, those challenges have sharpened the work. They have helped me build a practice that is more intentional, more di)erentiated, and more aligned with the people I most want to help.

We’ve been impressed with Joya Sagrada Family Therapy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Joya Sagrada Family Therapy is an intensive therapy practice that specializes in supporting family business owners, family leadership teams, and couples or relatives whose business roles have become entangled with old emotional patterns. I help clients address the pain underneath the operational problem: the trust ruptures, authority confusion, loyalty binds, chronic reactivity, and unresolved family roles that quietly disrupt leadership and home life at the same time. What sets my work apart is that I do not treat these situations as “just communication problems.” I use a state-first, relationship-centered approach that helps people recognize nervous system dysregulation, lower defensiveness, and engage one another with more honesty and stability. From there, I help clarify roles, repair trust, and identify structural changes that keep ordinary business stress from constantly spilling into family life.I am especially proud of the direction the brand is taking now. The practice is becoming more focused, more honest, and more useful: not trying to be everything to everyone, but known for helping family businesses and relief when the business is no longer just a business and the family no longer feels like a safe place. I want readers to know that therapy can be a powerful intervention for business systems when the real problem is relational and systemic, not just tactical.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is helping people restore connection where stress, resentment, and old survival patterns have taken over. In family businesses, the loss is rarely just efficiency or profit. It is often the loss of ease, trust, warmth, and belonging with the very people you once hoped to build a legacy with.
I care deeply about helping families create conditions where both the business and the relationships can function more cleanly. That means protecting the humanity of the people involved while also taking the operational realities seriously.
I also care about integrity in this field. When people are in pain, especially inside high-stakes family and business systems, they deserve work that is thoughtful, nuanced, and strong enough to hold the truth of what is actually happening.
