Rising Stars: Meet Mayra Salguero of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Salguero.

Hi Mayra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
La Casita azul Daycare was born as I was working for non profit organizations. There I was able to see first hand how much daycare is needed in our community. I wanted to be that safe place for children to go to so their parents were able to go to work and provide for their families. I became the daycare that I would love for my children to attend. The one who trustworthy, genuine and whole hearted.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As an in home daycare there are many struggles that we face. The biggest one is not being able to provide care for everyone that needs it. There are communities that need immediate care and if you don’t have specific qualifications you have to refer them somewhere else. For that reason I keep training to be able to serve families, especially children with special needs.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an in home family daycare. I serve children from 0 months to 14 years of age. I have 18 years of experience, with a trauma informed care certification. I am also bilingual I speak spanish and english. I work with child care programs that help parents cover the costs of child care. When a parent is not able to pay a certain fee I also sponsor them. In my daycare, when you enroll, you are family! Im not just your daycare provider. I am someone you can count on. Someone that will help if she is able to and I take pride in that.

What’s next?
As of right now, I have my small daycare license and I am planning on expanding my daycare to be able to provide care for up to 14 children And like that be able to reach more families. I am also looking forward on becoming a teacher in the near future.
