Rising Stars: Meet Yilena Garcia of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yilena Garcia.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey with this business began in 2019 when i joined the team as a seamstress. I have always had a passion for sewing, alterations, and helping people feel confident in clothing that fits them perfectly. Working closely with brides and clients over the years allowed me to develop not only my technical skills but also a deep appreciation for the personal stories behind every garment.
As I became more involved in the day-to-day operations of the store, I grew to love the mission of giving beautiful dresses a second life while making wedding attire more accessible and affordable. When the previous owner decided to relocate and offered me the opportunity to purchase the business, I saw it as a chance to continue serving the community while building on a foundation I already cared deeply about.
Today, I am proud to own and operate the business, where we specialize in consignment wedding dresses, designer gowns, and professional alterations. Whether a dress is brand new, previously worn, or sourced through one of our trusted partners, our goal is to help every client find something they love and ensure it fits beautifully. We also provide in-house alterations for a wide variety of garments beyond bridal wear, allowing us to serve our community in many different ways.
What started as a position behind a sewing machine has grown into the opportunity of a lifetime. Owning this business has allowed me to combine my passion for craftsmanship, sustainability, and customer service while helping clients celebrate some of life’s most important moments.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges was transitioning from being solely a seamstress to becoming a business owner. As a seamstress, my focus was on serving clients and perfecting alterations. As an owner, I had to learn how to manage inventory, operations, finances, and the many responsibilities that come with running a business while still continuing the work I love. Balancing both roles has required a lot of growth, adaptability, and time management, but it has also been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in bridal and formal wear alterations and helping clients bring their vision to life. As a seamstress, I enjoy the creative challenge of transforming a garment, so it fits not only a person’s body, but also their style and personality. Every garment is unique, and I take pride in the attention to detail that goes into every alteration.

Through our consignment bridal boutique, I also have the opportunity to help beautiful dresses find a second life. Whether a gown is brand new, previously worn, or a designer sample, I love helping clients discover a dress that makes them feel confident and special. In addition to bridal alterations, we provide alterations for a wide variety of garments, allowing us to serve our community beyond weddings.

What I am most proud of is the trust our clients place in us during some of the most important moments of their lives. What sets me apart is my combination of technical skill, creativity, and genuine care for every client who walks through our doors. I believe every person deserves clothing that fits beautifully, and I strive to make that happen with every project I take on.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being creative makes me the happiest. I have always been a creative person, and my work allows me to express that creativity every day. I enjoy taking a garment and transforming it into something that fits perfectly and helps someone feel confident and beautiful. Seeing a client’s reaction when they find their dream dress or see the final result of an alteration is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that my work plays a small part in some of the most important moments of people’s lives is what brings me the greatest joy.
