Community Highlights: Meet Sara Shipp of Lemons & Lace Bridal Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Shipp.

Hi Sara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Lemons & Lace was never just about selling dresses for me.
For years, I helped build homes, manage projects, raise my girls, and support the dreams of the people around me. But deep down, I knew I wanted to create something that was entirely my own – something creative, personal, and centered around people.
So I took a leap of faith and opened Lemons & Lace.
My vision was simple: create a bridal studio where women felt comfortable, celebrated, and genuinely cared for. I wanted the experience to feel less like a sales appointment and more like spending time with a friend who was invested in helping you find the dress you’ll wear on one of the most important days of your life.
That’s why I chose a private studio model. No crowded showroom. No pressure. Just a warm, welcoming space where brides can slow down, be themselves, and enjoy the process.
The dresses matter, of course – but what means the most to me are the relationships. It’s the coffee before an appointment, the happy tears when a bride finds her dress, the texts along the way, and the wedding photos that arrive months later. Those moments are why I do this.
What started with a small collection of gowns and a big dream has grown into an award-winning bridal studio serving brides throughout Ventura County. I still get excited every time a bride says “yes” to her dress, and I still feel honored every time someone trusts me to be a small part of such a meaningful chapter in their life.
Giving back has always been important to me, too. Through Lemons & Lace, every dress purchased helps support local children and families in our community because I believe businesses should leave a positive impact beyond their walls.
At the end of the day, Lemons & Lace isn’t just a bridal studio. It’s a place where women are celebrated, confidence is built, memories are made, and one of life’s biggest milestones is honored with kindness, joy, and a little bit of magic.
And I still feel incredibly grateful every single day that I get to do this.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any business in its first few years, there have definitely been plenty of highs and lows!
One of the biggest challenges has been dealing with dresses getting held up in customs. It can be stressful when a bride is excitedly waiting for her gown, but I’ve learned to stay calm, communicate clearly, and focus on finding solutions. Whether that’s expediting shipping, working directly with vendors, or finding a creative backup plan, I always figure out a way to take care of my brides.
Owning a business has taught me that challenges are inevitable, but how you respond to them is what really matters. Every obstacle has made me more resourceful, more confident, and better prepared for the next one.

As you know, we’re big fans of Lemons & Lace Bridal Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Lemons & Lace is a private bridal studio in Ventura, California, created for brides who want a personalized, stress-free dress shopping experience.
When I opened Lemons & Lace, my goal was simple: I wanted brides to feel celebrated, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. I felt there was room for a more intimate approach to bridal shopping – one where every appointment feels personal and every bride feels seen.
We specialize in modern, effortlessly chic bridal gowns at approachable price points, with most of our dresses falling between $1,500 and $1,800. Because we operate as a private studio rather than a traditional boutique, brides receive one-on-one attention throughout the entire process – from booking her appointment to saying “yes” to celebrating when it arrives.
What sets us apart is the experience. My brides aren’t just another appointment on the calendar. I get to know them, learn about their wedding, their style, and what makes them feel beautiful. Many of my brides become friends, and some still text me wedding photos long after their big day.
One of the things I’m most proud of is that we’ve built a business centered around kindness, authenticity, and community. We have intentionally grown through relationships, referrals, and word of mouth. Every review, recommendation, and returning family member means the world to me because it reflects the trust people place in our brand.
Giving back is also a core part of who we are. With every dress purchased, Lemons & Lace makes a donation that supports local children and families in our community. I believe businesses should create a positive impact beyond their products and services.
At the end of the day, we sell bridal dresses, but what we’re really creating is an experience. We help women feel confident, beautiful, and celebrated during one of the most meaningful moments of their lives. That’s what I’m most proud of, and that’s what I hope every bride remembers long after she leaves our studio.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was equal parts responsible and creative. I loved people, loved being busy, and was always coming up with ideas or projects. I’ve always had a strong work ethic and a big heart, which are probably the same traits that led me to become a business owner years later.
