Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathlyn Flores.
Hi Kathlyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for skincare started early. Growing up as a Filipina immigrant, I was drawn to rituals of care and connection, and my parents and I would do face masks together. That became a lasting curiosity about skin and what it really means to care for yourself.
I studied psychology in college, and that background shaped how I approach beauty and wellness. I’ve now been an esthetician for eight years, most of that time in luxury spa settings. That environment shaped my holistic approach in skincare and how skincare isn’t just vanity but a way to show up for yourself fully.
For a long time, I knew I wanted to build something of my own, but I kept putting it off. Fear played a big role, I wouldn’t call myself naturally risk-taking but over time, I realized nothing grows without a leap. That shift became the beginning of everything.
That leap was supported by community. Through Janay Bias, founder of Hiraya Collective, I stepped into a shared space alongside two other Filipinas building their own paths in beauty. Being surrounded by this kind of energy: collaborative, supportive, and purpose-driven, gave me the courage to fully step into my own vision.
After years of pouring into other people’s spaces, I created Ease: a reflection of everything I believe in. where we look beyond the surface and consider the full picture of skin health, lifestyle, and emotional well-being. It’s a place where clients can simply receive and be. My approach centers on nervous system reset, creating a space where the skin can truly receive, using curated, barrier-supportive products that are safe even for the most sensitive skin.
Becoming a twin mom made that mission even more meaningful. It pushed me to be braver and pursue the things I once hesitated on. I want my boys to grow up seeing their mom take risks, build something from the ground up, and move through life with intention. At the same time, I want my clients to feel that same permission: to slow down, breathe, and feel at ease in their own skin.
It’s funny to look back and say I wasn’t someone who took risks, because today I’m building a business while raising twin boys. I guess you can say motherhood activated a “brave switch” in me. It gave me the courage to go after my dreams, in hopes that one day it inspires my boys to go after theirs wholeheartedly.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. For a long time, the hardest part was simply starting. Fear and self-doubt held me back, and imposter syndrome made me question if I was truly ready or if my work had value.
Even now, those thoughts still show up but I’ve learned not to let them lead or overpower why I started this in the first place. I meet them with trust in what I’m building.
Balancing business and motherhood has been another challenge. Raising twin boys while growing a brand stretches me in every way: financially, emotionally, and physically. Entrepreneurship isn’t easy, and there’s a reason I delayed it for so long.
But I’m incredibly grateful for the clients and the community I get to serve. The people I get to connect with and the privilege they give me of being vulnerable inside the treatment room. They give purpose to my work. And through it all, I’ve built resilience, stronger discipline, and a deeper confidence in my path.
We’ve been impressed with Ease The Skincare Geek Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Ease The Skincare Geek Studio is located inside Hiraya Collective, a shared space for Filipina professionals designed as a one-stop destination for advanced beauty services. Hiraya translates to the “fruit of one’s hopes, dreams, and aspirations,” reflecting the spirit of the space.
At the core of my services is the “Ease Method”, a philosophy I developed to approach skin holistically. All my facial treatment begins with a thoughtful evaluation of the client’s skin, lifestyle, and overall well-being, allowing me to curate an experience that is both effective and deeply restorative. I specialize in integrating advanced skincare with slow, intentional techniques such as lymphatic drainage and facial sculpting, designed to enhance the skin while supporting nervous system regulation.
I also offer membership-based care through what I call ‘The Skincare Geek Club’, it’s special monthly pricing for clients who value consistency, intention, and a deeper connection to their skin. Rooted in the belief that lasting skin health is built over time, the club goes beyond maintenance, it fosters a sense of belonging, where clients feel supported, seen, and part of a growing community. My vision for Ease has always extended beyond treatments, with a focus on creating meaningful, lasting relationships both in and outside of the treatment room.
What sets Ease The Skincare Geek Studio apart is the experience itself. It is a space designed for stillness, where clients can step away from the pace of everyday life and simply be. I place a strong emphasis on personal touches, from thoughtfully tailored treatments to small rituals that make the experience feel intimate and cared for. I offer a complimentary matcha to clients and members who enjoy it, creating a sense of warmth and familiarity, like stepping into someone’s home, where you’re immediately taken care of. As a Filipina-owned business, I take pride in creating a space that reflects my identity and the care rooted in Filipino hospitality.
I’m most proud that the brand feels both elevated and deeply personal. Ease is a reflection of my belief that skincare is not just about achieving healthy, radiant skin, it’s about how you feel while getting there. It’s an invitation to slow down, reconnect, and return to yourself, leaving you with not only with visible results but with a sense of calm and ease that lingers beyond the treatment room.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One of the most important lessons I’m learning is that growth doesn’t always look like constant momentum. As a newer business owner, I’m still very much in the phase of absorbing lessons as they come, learning to navigate both the busy seasons and the slower ones. I’ve come to understand that those slower moments aren’t setbacks, but necessary pauses that allow you to reflect, refine, and fully appreciate the seasons of growth when they arrive.
I’ve also learned the importance of practicing what I preach. So much of my work is centered around care, balance, and nervous system regulation, and I’ve realized that in order to truly show up for my clients (and for my boys) I have to pour into myself first. That means creating space to rest, reset, and stay grounded, even in the midst of building something new.
More than anything, this journey has taught me to embrace the process. To trust that everything is shaping not just my business, but the kind of life and presence I want to embody. And in a quiet way, I hope my boys will one day look back and see that it was never about perfection or speed, but about showing up, again and again, with love and intention.
