Community Highlights: Meet Heather Mullin of Trillium Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Mullin.

Hi Heather, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always loved body work. In highschool I was on the sports medicine team and I enjoyed my class mates through injuries. After high school I joined the fire department and expanded my passion for helping others. I was a firefighter for 8 years, 6 years with cal fire.
After I left cal fire I became a massage therapist full time. I was happy to find a way I could continue helping others in a more relaxed environment. I traveled the world for nearly a year. I was a passionate fire dancer and provided massage to fellow travelers to help fund my adventures. About 9 months into my travels a studio apartment came available with a month to month lease next door to my sister in San Luis Obispo county. I decided SLO would be my next stop. At the time, she was a personal trainer and Kennedy club fitness. She introduced me to the management who then offered me a storage closet. They said if I cleaned it out I could use a he space as my office. I built my business there and watched it grow. at one time providing multiple treatment rooms with a variety of wellness providers. I became active in the local rock climbing community and had ambitions of swapping leads up the face of half dome. Life had other plans for me. I was struck by a semi truck while riding my small motorcycle. I am lucky to be alive. downsized my business. The recovery from the accident was long and challenging. It took me several weeks to walk again. After years of many different types of treatment I was still unable climbed or dance the same. This was when I discovered CranioSacral Therapy.and I finally began to take big steps in recovery. I signed up for training immediately. This is the primary therapy I offer nearly 10 years later. While I still enjoy rock climbing I rarely climb big walls. You can catch me fire dance at the beach occasionally too. Now, with my range of motion nearly fully restored (thanks to a combination of physical therapy and CranioSacral therapy), I passionately pursue tai Chi and Wushu and I hope one day I will be able to teach. I hope that my healing journey and all the tools I’ve picked up along the way will help others on there journey as well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
During the pandemic I had to close my doors. I still wanted an outlet for me desire to help others, so I found full time work with a wonderful local nonprofit. I continued to received training in CranioSacral Therapy and after 4 years in the nonprofit sector I returned to my clients and business.
