Life & Work with Rose Seybold of Central Coast (California)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Seybold.

Hi Rose, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Looking back, weddings have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Solvang, California, where my grandparents owned a wedding venue, and my aunt was a florist. Some of my earliest memories are of watching couples celebrate one of the happiest days of their lives and seeing the incredible amount of care that went into creating those moments. At the time, I didn’t realize it was shaping my future—I just knew I loved the joy, creativity, and community that surrounded weddings.

In my early twenties, I moved to Oakland and found myself working in the event industry in the Bay Area. That experience gave me a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to produce successful events and strengthened my passion for creating memorable experiences. It also taught me that while beautiful design is important, it’s thoughtful planning and seamless execution that truly make an event special.

Everything came full circle after I met my husband, Hayden, in 2019. He saw how naturally I gravitated toward planning and encouraging others, and he was the one who gave me the confidence to turn that lifelong passion into a business. With his support, I launched Rose to the Occasions.

Today, I have the privilege of planning weddings throughout California, from the Central Coast to the Bay Area and beyond. My goal is to create celebrations that feel deeply personal, beautifully organized, and completely reflective of each couple. I love taking care of the countless details behind the scenes so my couples can be fully present, soak in every moment, and simply enjoy one of the most meaningful days of their lives.

It’s incredibly rewarding to realize that the weddings I grew up around inspired the career I have today, and I feel so grateful that I now get to help create those memories for other families.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like most small business owners, my journey has definitely not been a straight line. I launched Rose to the Occasions while working a full-time job, which meant spending evenings, weekends, and vacation days building my business one wedding at a time. There were plenty of long days, early mornings, and moments where I questioned whether I could balance it all.

One of the biggest challenges has been learning that running a wedding planning business requires so much more than planning beautiful events. You’re also a marketer, accountant, salesperson, social media manager, website designer, and business owner. Every new season has brought new lessons, and I’ve had to continuously invest in education, systems, and processes to better serve my couples.

The wedding industry is also built on trust, and that takes time to earn. Building relationships with venues, photographers, florists, caterers, and other vendors didn’t happen overnight. It came from consistently showing up, doing what I said I would do, and creating experiences that left both couples and vendors excited to work together again.

Even with the challenges, I wouldn’t change the journey. Every obstacle has helped shape the planner I am today and has reinforced why I love this work. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching months of planning come together and seeing my couples fully present, enjoying every moment with the people they love. Those moments make all of the hard work behind the scenes worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Rose to the Occasions, I specialize in creating weddings that feel effortless, personal, and true to each couple. I offer everything from wedding management to full-service planning, working with couples throughout California to bring their vision to life while taking the stress off their shoulders. Whether it’s an intimate coastal celebration, a wine country weekend, or an elegant city wedding, I love transforming ideas into an experience that feels seamless for both my couples and their guests.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my couples place in me. Wedding planning is about so much more than timelines and checklists—it’s about understanding what’s most important to each couple and creating a day that reflects who they are. I love being the calm, steady presence behind the scenes so my couples can truly enjoy every moment with the people they love.

I think what sets me apart is my combination of creativity and organization. I genuinely love the design side of weddings, but I’m equally passionate about logistics, communication, and making sure every moving piece comes together flawlessly. My goal is for my couples to never have to wonder what’s happening because I’ve already thought five steps ahead. I also believe in building strong relationships with my vendor teams, because when everyone works together with the same goal, it creates an incredible experience for everyone involved.

At the end of the day, success for me isn’t just creating a beautiful wedding—it’s hearing my couples say they felt completely present on their wedding day because they knew someone they trusted was taking care of everything else.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to trust my instincts. Early on, I felt like I had to say yes to every inquiry because I was focused on growing my business. Over time, I realized that the best weddings happen when there’s a genuine connection and mutual trust between a planner and their couple.

I’ve learned that it’s okay to walk away from opportunities that aren’t the right fit. Not every couple is meant for every planner, and that’s perfectly okay. When I work with couples who value collaboration, trust my expertise, and share my vision for creating a thoughtful and joyful celebration, the entire planning experience is better—not just for me, but for them as well.

I’ve also learned that building a business isn’t about growing as quickly as possible; it’s about growing intentionally. Every decision, from the clients I take on to the vendors I recommend, shapes the reputation of my business. Protecting that reputation means staying true to my values, communicating honestly, and trusting my gut even when it’s difficult.

That lesson has given me the confidence to build a business that reflects who I am, and I think my couples feel the difference. When we’re the right fit for each other, planning becomes less about checking off a to-do list and more about creating something meaningful together.
