Conversations with Oren Laufer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oren Laufer.

Hi Oren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Art Scout grew out of two passions that have shaped my career: high-tech marketing and contemporary art.

My background is in high-tech marketing, with a career focused on e-commerce, web design, digital marketing, and SEO. For many years, I helped businesses across a variety of industries grow their online presence and increase online sales. Through that work, I began collaborating with art galleries, building their websites, strengthening their digital marketing strategies, and helping them sell artwork online.

As I became more involved, my role naturally expanded beyond e-commerce and marketing. I began managing gallery operations as well, first with one gallery and later with another. Working closely with gallery owners, artists, and collectors gave me a deep understanding of both the business and personal sides of the art world.

The more I worked with galleries and artists, the more I fell in love with the art world. I quickly realized how much incredible talent exists, but also how challenging it can be for artists to gain meaningful exposure and connect with the right collectors. I’m still learning every day, and that’s one of the things I enjoy most about this industry.

As galleries and artists began trusting me with their online presence, I also started helping artists sell their work online and place their artwork in galleries. Eventually, it became clear that I could combine everything I had learned into something of my own. That led me to expand Art Scout from a fine art marketing agency into an online gallery representing contemporary artists from around the world.

Today, Art Scout brings together everything I’ve learned from both the digital and gallery worlds. We help artists build a strong professional presence through websites, branding, online marketplaces, and digital marketing, while also representing their work and connecting it with collectors, primarily in the U.S. market but also around the world. My goal has always been to build genuine, long-term partnerships that help artists create sustainable careers while making exceptional contemporary art more accessible to collectors everywhere.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. Like most businesses, Art Scout has evolved through a lot of trial and error.

One of the biggest challenges has been building trust. The art world is built on relationships, and as an online gallery, you have to earn the confidence of both artists and collectors. That takes time, consistency, and delivering on your promises.

Another challenge has been balancing two very different worlds. On one hand, artists need someone who understands their creative vision and supports their careers. On the other, collectors expect a professional buying experience, transparency, and confidence in every purchase. Creating an experience that serves both sides has been an ongoing learning process.

I’ve also learned that every artist has different goals, personalities, and expectations, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Building long-term relationships means listening, adapting, and finding ways to support each artist individually.

Despite the challenges, I genuinely enjoy the process. Every obstacle has taught me something new, and those lessons continue to shape how Art Scout grows and how we support the artists we represent.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Art Scout is an international online gallery representing a diverse roster of contemporary artists, including internationally exhibited and museum-collected artists from around the world. Our mission is to connect exceptional contemporary art with collectors, primarily in the U.S. market while also serving collectors globally. Beyond exhibiting and selling artwork, we help artists and galleries build a strong professional presence through branding, websites, online marketplaces, and digital marketing because long-term success in today’s art world requires both outstanding work and a strong digital presence.

What sets Art Scout apart is our ability to combine traditional gallery representation with modern digital expertise. My background in high-tech marketing, e-commerce, and gallery operations allows me to approach artist representation from both perspectives. We don’t just exhibit artwork. We work closely with our artists to increase their visibility, tell the stories behind their work, and create meaningful connections with collectors.

Every artist has a unique voice, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help their work reach new audiences, find homes with collectors, and create opportunities that support their long-term careers. Seeing an artist’s career grow, whether through a sale, an exhibition, or simply reaching a wider audience, is one of the most fulfilling parts of what I do.

At the heart of Art Scout is a simple philosophy: every artist deserves thoughtful representation, and every collector deserves a meaningful connection to the artwork they bring into their lives.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I think one of the most important things I’ve learned is that art is ultimately about people. Behind every painting or sculpture is an artist with a unique story, years of dedication, and a personal vision. Behind every purchase is a collector looking for something that speaks to them on a deeper level.

Technology has transformed the way we discover and collect art, but it hasn’t changed what makes art meaningful. Genuine relationships, trust, and authentic storytelling are still at the heart of the experience.

As Art Scout continues to grow, my goal is to keep building those connections by supporting talented artists, working with passionate galleries, and helping more collectors discover artwork they’ll enjoy for years to come. I believe the art world becomes stronger when artists, galleries, and collectors all succeed together, and I’m excited to continue being part of that journey.
