Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Brick.
Hi Jared, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got my start in film photography and then learned digital media as Brick House Images, as people love calling me “Brick” or “Brick House” in college at CU Boulder, Go Buffs! After working in Colorado, New York and San Francisco I expanded my media world to include digital video and focused on business work. In 2012 I received my MBA in Sustainable Business at the Presidio Graduate School, and was working for the new startup company, Lyft ridesharing at the time during grad school. It was in one ride that I met my first client; who needed videos, social media marketing and a digital strategy… thus Brick House Media was born in Oakland, CA circa 2013. Over the years we have evolved and our core business is video productions, social media marketing, website development and digital media strategy. We focus on health and wellness thought leaders as well as innovators in a variety of industries. View our full story at bhmedia.co
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No… as I tell teens I mentor life for me did not, and often does not take a linear and straight pathway. There have been times of intense lack… not always knowing where our next clients or projects would be from. We also moved from the busy SF Bay Area to a smaller market in Santa Cruz in 2017 and it was a challenge to keep going. The work universe works in wild and often mysterious ways and through it all, we have thrived. Along the way we have expanded services, added products, deepened our knowledge base and partnered with others to produce excellent work. Tenacity, hustle, focus and a purpose drive continue to fuel us.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Our work in video and media is creative at the core. We are designing a media asset that does not exist in the world and making it become a reality. Often we are converting a professionals vision into a tangible thing… that is not always a clear straight line. Over the years we have helped authors with books, explained wellness for product companies, share innovations with investors, and help health experts heal others with their creations. It is challenging and rewarding work and we are proud to work with bold thought leaders pushing the bounds of what they thought was impossible… into reality. We bring a creative force with us and this supports professionals to have a solid, sustainable platform to grow from; the Brick House.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk is an essential ingredient if you’re making anything with entrepreneurs, startups, any new venture or enterprise in a bold new way. When you’re creating from this place, you’re inherently “risky” with your new ideas and hopefully venturing into a new space. It’s a core component of this work to be a risk-taker so that you can create something truly innovative.
We’ve had clients that don’t even fully understand their own service offerings until we take the “risk” of creating it with them. One recent risk was to build out a company internal studio at their international local headquarter office; so that they could create content as needed. I could tell the leadership team was uncertain of the outcome, but due to our real world experience, we created something wonderful. Risk is an essential ingredient.
