Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Dorsey.
Hi Beth, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been fascinated by health and the human body for as long as I can remember. In high school, I became passionate about nutrition, fitness, and understanding how lifestyle affects our health, and that curiosity has stayed with me ever since.
In college, I played competitive Ultimate Frisbee (yes, really!) and continued taking courses that fueled my interest in nutrition, anatomy, and optimal health. After graduating, I spent several years doing what I loved most, working outdoors as a whitewater rafting guide during the summers and skiing in the winters. It was an incredible chapter of my life that deepened my appreciation for movement, nature, and the body’s resilience.
Eventually, I became a massage therapist, which gave me the opportunity to help people feel better physically. While I loved treating pain and working with athletes, I knew I wanted more. I wanted to help not only with musculoskeletal issues but also with the internal imbalances that were affecting their overall health.
That led me to acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
While I was at Five Branches University, I read The Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis, and everything clicked. I completely fell in love with fertility, hormone health, and the idea of helping people build their families. I knew then that this was the path I wanted to dedicate my career to.
After graduating, I never stopped learning, so I pursued extensive continuing education in fertility, women’s health, hormone balance, digestive health, and eventually functional medicine. Integrating functional medicine into my practice has allowed me to combine the wisdom of Chinese medicine with modern laboratory testing to better understand what’s happening beneath the surface.
Today, after nearly 20 years in practice, I still genuinely love what I do. I feel incredibly fortunate to help people navigate everything from infertility and hormone imbalances to digestive disorders and chronic health concerns. Every patient has a unique story, and one of my greatest passions is connecting the dots, finding the root cause, and helping people feel like themselves again.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like most entrepreneurs, it definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Fortunately, before becoming an acupuncturist, I had already built two successful massage therapy practices, so I had a good understanding of what it takes to grow a business. That experience gave me confidence and helped me avoid some of the common pitfalls.
That said, building a wellness practice in a community with many talented practitioners has its own challenges. It takes time to earn people’s trust, establish your reputation, and find your unique voice.
Looking back, though, my biggest challenge wasn’t building the practice, it was finding balance. During the early years of Points for Wellness, I was also building my family. Raising two children while growing a business I cared so deeply about required a lot of juggling, flexibility, and sacrifice. There were certainly moments when I questioned whether I could do both well.
What I’ve learned is that balance isn’t something you achieve once, it’s something you continue to work toward. I’m incredibly grateful that I stayed the course because today I have a thriving practice, an amazing team, and a family I’m so proud of. Those challenges shaped both the practitioner and the business owner I am today.
We’ve been impressed with Points For Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Points for Wellness is really a reflection of my philosophy on healthcare. I founded the practice 20 years ago with a simple belief: everyone deserves to feel heard, understood, and have a clear plan forward. Too often, people come to me after they’ve seen multiple providers, had normal lab work, and still don’t feel like themselves. Those are the patients I love working with because I enjoy connecting the dots and helping them uncover the root cause of what’s going on.
While acupuncture has always been the foundation of my practice, I’ve continually evolved the way I care for patients. Over the years, I’ve integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine with functional medicine, and advanced laboratory testing so I can better understand what’s happening beneath the surface. My goal has never been to simply treat symptoms, it’s to understand why someone is experiencing them and create a personalized plan that supports lasting health.
About five years ago, I realized that my vision had grown beyond just me. I wanted to create a clinic where patients could receive exceptional care from a team of practitioners who shared the same values of curiosity, compassion, and whole-person care. That’s when Points for Wellness evolved from a solo practice into a collaborative wellness clinic. While I still work closely with my own patients every day, I’m incredibly proud of the team I’ve built and the comprehensive care we’re now able to offer our community.
Today, we specialize in fertility and reproductive health, hormone balance, perimenopause and menopause, digestive health, chronic pain, skin health. Whether someone is preparing for IVF, navigating endometriosis or PCOS, struggling with digestive issues, or simply feeling exhausted without answers, our goal is to help them feel seen, understood, and supported.
I think what sets us apart is our curiosity and our commitment to never stop learning. We take the time to educate our patients, explain their lab results in a way that makes sense, and create individualized treatment plans. We believe every person’s story is unique, and their care should be too.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the practice I’ve built, it’s the culture we’ve created. My goal has always been for every person who walks through our doors to feel genuinely cared for, whether they’re working with me, another acupuncturist, one of our massage therapists, or our front desk team. Creating that kind of patient experience has become just as important to me as providing excellent clinical care.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One thing that might surprise people is that I’m constantly asking “why?” I’m naturally curious, and I genuinely love solving puzzles. If something doesn’t make sense, I have a hard time letting it go until I understand it. I’m always looking for connections that others may have missed.
That curiosity has really shaped the way I built Points for Wellness. I never wanted it to be “just another acupuncture clinic.” I wanted to create a place where patients feel listened to, where their story matters, and where they receive thoughtful, comprehensive care from the moment they walk through the door. From our welcoming front desk and comfortable treatment rooms to our in-depth intake process, personalized treatment plans, and collaborative team approach, every detail is intentional.
I know we’re not the right fit for everyone, and that’s okay. We love working with people who are looking for a more comprehensive, patient-centered experience and who want a partner in their health journey, not just a quick treatment.
