Today we’d like to introduce you to Soojin (Paxy) Park.
Hi Soojin (Paxy), thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in South Korea, and I’ve been studying and creating music since I was 15 years old. Music has always been a huge part of my life — I studied vocals and spent years developing myself as an artist and songwriter.
About five years ago, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue more opportunities in music. While building my career here, I started working in nightlife and became deeply connected to the scene. One day, I found myself thinking, “Why am I not DJing? I’ve spent my whole life understanding music, performing, and connecting with people through sound.”
That thought became a turning point. I started DJing, and what began as a new chapter quickly became something I never expected. Today, I’m a full-time DJ, performing across Los Angeles and continuing to expand my career while combining my background as an artist with my passion for creating unforgettable experiences through music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been learning how to navigate the nightlife industry. While it’s an exciting and creative environment, it can also be unpredictable, and not everyone you meet will always have the best intentions. Learning who to trust, setting boundaries, and protecting my energy have been important lessons throughout my journey.
Before becoming a DJ, I spent several years working in nightlife as a promoter, which allowed me to understand the industry from a different perspective. However, when I decided to step behind the decks, I had to challenge myself in a completely new way and prove myself as an artist.
One of the biggest things I had to learn was how to handle rejection. I had to put myself out there, reach out to many people, and create my own opportunities. Not every message received a response, and not every opportunity worked out, but I learned that rejection is simply part of the process. I had to stop taking things personally and continue believing in my own abilities.
There were also moments when the pressure of building my career affected me mentally. I experienced anxiety and panic attacks along the way, but those experiences taught me resilience and the importance of taking care of myself.
Over time, I learned to develop a thicker skin and remind myself that I am capable of achieving the goals I set for myself. This journey has taught me so much beyond music — I’ve learned business, communication, negotiation, and how to understand my own value.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a full-time DJ, but I also have a background as a producer and songwriter. I love creating my own music from scratch and playing it during my sets. Seeing the crowd react to something I created is one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of what I do. Music has been a part of my life for over a decade — I studied vocals and have always been deeply involved in creating and understanding music. Until recently, I was also collaborating with a sync licensing company, creating opportunities for my music to be placed in different media projects.
What I believe sets me apart as a DJ is my ability to truly understand and read music. I’m very focused on how different songs work together — what combinations create the strongest impact, how to build the right energy, and how to create a journey for the audience. My strength is not only mixing songs, but understanding the emotion and story behind the music. I think of an entire DJ set as one continuous song, where every transition and energy shift has a purpose.
I also believe I have a strong sense of taste and a wide musical perspective. Although I’m from South Korea, my influences go far beyond one culture or genre. I’m deeply connected to Afrobeats, hip hop, R&B, and different styles within hip hop. I’m constantly exploring different genres and discovering music that many people may not have heard before.
I love introducing people to new sounds and sharing music that I believe deserves to be heard.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I would love to share a message with anyone who has a dream they are chasing: believe in yourself and keep going. I know timing is not always perfect, and sometimes the journey can feel uncertain, but you have to keep showing up and working toward your goals every single day.
Life is short, so I believe we should spend our time doing what we truly love and filling our days with things that bring us happiness and purpose. For me, every time I’m behind my DJ decks and making music, I genuinely feel grateful and blessed because I’m doing something I truly love.
I’ve learned that when you appreciate where you are and stay grateful for the opportunities you have, more possibilities start to come your way. Don’t be afraid to pursue the life you truly want.
