Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Ducato.
Hi Peter, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
STEL started with a simple idea: great products deserve great stories.
Early in my career, I was working across product design and visualization, and I kept seeing the same problem. The people designing the product, the people visualizing it, and the people telling the story were often working separately. I believed there was a better way.
So I started building a studio where those disciplines could work together.
What began as a small, hands-on team grew through relationships, referrals, and a commitment to doing great work. Over time, STEL evolved into a global creative studio working across product design, visualization, animation, and creative production.
Today, we work with both global brands and emerging companies, helping them take an idea from its earliest stages through development, launch, and the story that ultimately introduces it to the world. We’ve been fortunate to build long-standing relationships with teams like Google while also working alongside founders and growing brands to create entirely new products and experiences.
STEL operates globally, with team members and collaborators in Bend, Oregon, Santa Barbara, Chicago, France, other parts of California, and beyond. That model gives us the ability to bring the right people together around each project without losing the personal, hands-on approach that helped us grow in the first place.
The company has changed a lot over the years, but the goal has stayed pretty simple: surround ourselves with talented people, solve meaningful problems, and create work we’re proud to put into the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I don’t think building anything meaningful ever is.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to grow without losing what made STEL special in the first place. When you’re small, you can be involved in every detail. As the company grows, you have to learn how to trust people, build better systems, and give others ownership while still protecting the quality of the work.
There have also been the normal challenges that come with running a creative business: unpredictable project cycles, learning when to say no, managing cash flow, hiring the right people, and navigating relationships when projects don’t go as planned.
Some of the hardest moments have also been the most valuable. They’ve forced us to become more disciplined about the clients we work with, the projects we take on, and the kind of company we want to build.
I’ve learned that growth isn’t really about avoiding problems. It’s about getting better at solving them. Every difficult project, mistake, and unexpected turn has helped shape STEL into a stronger and more intentional company.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
STEL is a global product design and creative studio focused on helping brands bring ideas to life, from early product thinking through launch.
Our work spans industrial design, visualization, animation, and creative production. What sets us apart is that those capabilities live under one roof, allowing us to think about the product and the story at the same time rather than treating them as separate phases.
We work with both established global brands and emerging companies, supporting everything from early concept development and product refinement to photoreal visualization, launch animation, and broader creative campaigns. Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to work with teams across Google and other leading brands, while also helping founders build entirely new products and businesses from the ground up.
STEL operates globally, with team members and collaborators in Bend, Santa Barbara, Chicago, France, other parts of California, and beyond. That structure gives us access to a broad range of talent while keeping our teams nimble and closely connected to the work.
What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve built with our clients. A lot of our relationships have lasted for years and expanded across different teams and projects. I think that comes from being more than just a vendor. We try to become an extension of the team, understand the problem deeply, and help create work that not only looks great, but actually moves the product and the business forward.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I’d say curiosity and adaptability.
The work we do is constantly changing. New technologies emerge, clients face different challenges, and every project asks something new of us. I’ve always tried to stay curious enough to keep learning and adaptable enough to change direction when a better opportunity presents itself.
That also means being willing to listen. Some of the best ideas come from the people around you, whether that’s a client, a designer, an engineer, or someone looking at the problem from a completely different perspective.
For me, success has been less about having all the answers and more about staying open, surrounding myself with great people, and being willing to keep evolving as the company grows.
