Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanye Lagunes.
Stephanye, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my journey as a chef working in different kitchens and eventually in catering and private events, where I realized how much I enjoy bringing people together through food. I’ve also always loved traveling and discovering different cultures through their food, and that has really influenced the way I cook and create.
Stroop Haus came from that same love for food, travel, and experiences. I was inspired by Dutch stroopwafels and European street markets and wanted to bring something fun and a little unexpected to weddings and private events here on the Central Coast.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think starting any business is a learning process, and Stroop Haus has definitely taught me a lot along the way. One of the biggest challenges has been getting the word out and reaching customers while building a brand from the ground up. I’ve had to learn how to market myself, connect with people, and keep showing up even when things don’t happen overnight. I’m still learning every day, but I’ve really enjoyed figuring things out, trying new things, and watching Stroop Haus slowly grow.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I care a lot about the quality of what I serve, from the ingredients I use to the way the final product is presented. I always want to create something that tastes delicious, feels special, and leaves people with a good memory. At Stroop Haus, our stroopwafels are made with 100% butter, handmade, and cooked fresh in front of our guests so they can enjoy them warm. I’m really proud to bring a little taste of Dutch street market culture to the Central Coast and offer something unique and fun for celebrations.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would say the first thing is to just get started with what you have. Don’t overthink it or wait until everything is perfect. Start with the resources you have, learn as you go, and build from there. There will always be challenges and moments when you question yourself, but don’t give up on your ideas or your dreams. Keep going, stay open to learning, and believe in what you’re building.
