Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Steffen.
Paige, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always loved drawing and being creative, but tattooing wasn’t something I initially imagined becoming my career. I got my first tattoo when I was 18, and the experience immediately sparked my interest in the art form and made me want to try it for myself. I started tattooing in 2020 and was completely self-taught in the beginning, practicing on friends and family and learning through hands-on experience. As I became more serious about tattooing, I took classes to expand my knowledge, strengthen my technique, and continue growing as an artist. Along the way, I explored permanent makeup and tried a few other career paths, but I always found myself coming back to tattooing. Eventually, I realized it was where I felt the most creative and fulfilled, and I decided to turn it into my career. It’s been really rewarding to look back and see how something that started simply because I loved art and was curious about tattooing has grown into what I get to do for a living today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Starting your own business is never easy, especially in an industry where you have to build trust and a clientele from the ground up. I started out very slowly with only a few clients, so there were definitely times when I questioned whether I could turn tattooing into a full-time career. Over time, through consistency, word of mouth, and continuing to improve my work, my clientele gradually grew. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come, but I also know I’m still growing and learning. I think that’s one of the most exciting parts. There’s always another level to reach, both as an artist and as a business owner.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in fine-line tattooing, especially delicate pieces in black and red ink. I’m always challenging myself to incorporate as much detail as possible while still keeping each tattoo clean, dainty, and balanced. I love creating pieces that feel intricate without being overwhelming, and I think that attention to detail has become a big part of my style. I’m most proud of how much my work has evolved and that I’ve been able to develop a style that feels like my own. What sets me apart is the amount of care I put into the small details. Whether it’s a very minimal design or something more intricate, I want every tattoo to feel intentional, personal, and beautifully executed for the person wearing it.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that surprises a lot of people is that I originally taught myself how to tattoo. I didn’t start out with formal training. I learned through practice, patience, and a lot of trial and error. As I became more serious about tattooing, I took classes to further my education and strengthen my technique. I’m really proud that something I initially taught myself has grown into a career and a style that feels completely my own.
