Conversations with Emaree Nickerson-Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emaree Nickerson-Wright.

Hi Emaree, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My Life changed for the best after my 4-day labor experience with my now 4-year old daughter, Yomi Ni’Ari Léon. Growing up, I went through many different experiences that affected me soul deep, leading to trauma, anxiety and PTSD that plagued My Mind, Heart, Soul & Spirit. I have always yearned to be a mother. After giving birth, I knew that I would have to commit to a journey of healing in order to be the MOMi that my baby needs.

Fashion is my 1st Love, an outlet that I heavily leaned on to express myself before I had the words and wisdom to do so. I started to build a very successful fashion career but after feeling underwhelmed backstage at the VMAs and a bit off after numerous encounters with people in the industry, I had no desire to continue to sacrifice my mental health and well-being to prove my value, my worth to others. Now, I understand myself to know that I am sensitive, always picking up on everything going on around me so I have to be mindful and protect that, but then? It was heavy carrying around what other people thought of me, what I should be doing and how they think I should show up in this world.

I embarked on a journey in the world of Birthwork when Yomi was 4-months old. I had a doula, Noemí Degaldo of Jaguar Medicine, who never left my side the entire 4 days I was in labor. She opened my eyes and heart to a way of being that I wanted to give to other MOMis. I remember being in rooms with other love-minded and spirited beings while getting my 1st doula certification thinking “Wow! Everyone here is so kind. So loving. We actually care about each other!” Fast forward, I am blessed to say I am a Postpartum Matrescence Doula, Certified Childbirth Educator, Grassroots Maternal and Child Health Leader and most importantly, the ViSIONARY and Founder of THE HAUS OF WOMEN WELLNESS.

THE HAUS OF WOMEN WELLNESS is my company that I have been building since 2022. My vision is to help Women & MOMi’s co-create harmonious Lifestyles through education, connection, products and event experiences. It is something I am building to leave behind to my daughters, not only to help them but to help yours too. I spent all of my Life studying Women, from fashion to birthwork to the little moments in between. I have developed a “Wholistic” view of Women and deeply understand how much beauty, power and pain fills our experience. I am always learning through my life experience and am committed to creatively, intentionally sharing with others!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! The biggest struggle has been those battles of the Mind. We are always ingesting, taking in soul much. Now with social media, it is easy to lose yourself and believe you are what you’re consuming. Not having a solid foundation, a lot of times I’ve felt ill-equipped to handle what comes with Life. Also, the belief that I am lacking, especially in love. That belief has led me to a lot experiences and relationships that are truly just not in alignment with God’s will for my Life. I can feel the misalignment but have ignored it because that is the Love I thought I needed. Seeking external validation in all forms while doubting my internal and eternal strength has kept me in ways of being and believing that stunted my growth for far too long!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a ViSIONARY, I do many things. I’m creative and always coming up with ideas, ways to make things better. I do not necessarily fit into any box nor do I want to. I am known for my authenticity, my sense of style, my genuine kind heart and showing up wholeheartedly in anything I put my mind to! I’d say I specialize in embodiment because I can literally show you better than I could tell you. I am most proud of my adaptability, authenticity and the way that I view Life. What sets me apart from others is that there is only one Emaree Ber’Ni 🙂

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Truly just take your time. Slow down. Keep your eyes focused above and in front of you, in the mirror. Be open to help and support but be mindful of who you share you with. There is literally no rush, you can start over and pivot as many times as you need to. Keep going yet rest when you need to, it’ll come together and make sense at some point! But don’t worry too much about that, enjoy living and the experience!
