Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanika Patel.
Hi tanika , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started creating content years ago as a way to share the things I genuinely loved—beauty, lifestyle, local businesses, and my life in Santa Cruz. I’ve always been on the creative side and have worked in the beauty industry for many years, so creating and connecting with people online came pretty naturally to me.
Food content really started taking off when I began sharing more of the local restaurants and hidden gems I was discovering. I realized how much I loved not only trying the food, but telling the story behind the businesses and helping people discover places they may have never heard of.
From there, it just grew organically. I started getting messages from people asking where they should eat, businesses reaching out wanting to work together, and I realized I had built something bigger than just posting pictures of food. I had created a community of people who trust my recommendations which is really awesome,
Today, I’m a local food and lifestyle creator, and what I love most is being able to use my platform to support small businesses while bringing people along with me. I’ve learned a lot along the way—about storytelling, social media, branding, and most importantly, staying authentic to who I am. My goal has always been to make people feel like they’re coming along with me, rather than just watching another food review.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve definitely had struggles along the way. You’re always going to get comments here and there, and sometimes it’s hard not to take them personally because I put so much time and effort into these videos. And when something I worked really hard on doesn’t perform the way I hoped, I have had days where I get down on myself. But at the end of the day, I remind myself that as long as I’m having fun, connecting with people, and doing something I love, that’s what matters most! I think every setback has helped me grow and become more confident in myself 🙂
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a local food and lifestyle content creator, and I specialize in showcasing restaurants, small businesses, and experiences in a way that feels fun, genuine, and relatable.
What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built and the impact my content can have on local businesses. I love hearing that someone tried a restaurant because they saw it on my page or that a small business had a great day because of something I posted.
I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about the businesses I feature and the community I’m part of. I’m not trying to be overly critical or create negativity for engagement. I want my content to make people excited to get out, try something new, and support local—and I think that positivity has become a big part of who I am as a creator.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think authenticity is probably the most important quality to my success. I’ve always tried to just be myself and let my personality come through in my content. I think people can tell when something feels genuine, and I never want my videos to feel forced.
I’d also say consistency. There are definitely days when something doesn’t perform the way I hoped, but I keep showing up. At the end of the day, I’m doing this because I genuinely love it, and I think that passion and consistency are a big part of why I’ve been able to grow.
