Hi Shay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Name is Shay Sullivan I own and operate a skateboard company called Sixpack skateboards. I’ve been doing it for little over 9 years now. I started Sixpack as a way to try to give back to skateboarding to give people the best quality at a decent price and to also hype people up and to remind them that skateboarding is the best thing on earth.
I’ve been skating for 23 plus years. After multiple sponsors went out of business when I was 26 it just seemed fitting to try to start and run my own thing. I’ve been blessed to have so many people support and continue to support after all these years. Shoutout all the homies and skateshops!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning a skateboard company is never a “smooth road”, more a road filled with pebbles and potholes. Business or money wise it’s not a gold mine by any means. But that’s not what it’s about and never has been. It’s always been about the love and passion for skateboarding. Skateboardings something I can’t not do. I have to ride my skateboard. So starting Sixpack I knew it’d be a rough road to keep it a float but I want the real ones to skateboard and be able to experience skateboarding the way I have.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I offer high quality skateboard decks and apparel. I sell a lot off of Instagram and also have skateshops around the country who carry them.
I like to think I’m known to people as someone who genuinely cares about skateboarding and wants to see the next group of people do it the right way. Skateboarding is all about the local scene and communities. The people such as me who bleed for it. 100 percent skateboarder some might say. But in the end it doesn’t matter what people think about me or Sixpack. It’s all about the wooden toy and the homies who keep doing it right.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If you’re a skateboarder, a true skateboarder go out and support your local companies and local skate shops. If you’re someone who’s just killing time and “riding” a skateboard, step aside and go find something else. I also want to give the biggest shoutout to anyone and everyone who’s ever ridden a Sixpack and been supporting their local scene. You guys are what keep skateboarding alive and well. Cheers!
