Today we’d like to introduce you to Geoffrey Dicker.
Hi Geoffrey, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
2026 marks 20 years of being an independent artist for me. I started out writing books, but over the years I’ve expanded into abstract painting and clothing design. I’m celebrating that journey with my memoir, The Book of G., released September 1, 2026—my 16th book.
The memoir is really about taking the road less traveled and refusing to let other people define what my creative life is supposed to look like. I’ve always valued the freedom to change direction, switch genres, experiment, and follow an idea wherever it takes me. That’s a big reason I chose to remain independent and avoid contracts that could limit where I go next.
It hasn’t always been easy. There have been plenty of ups and downs, and I certainly didn’t follow the traditional path. My books have gone from poetry to plays, short stories to novels, and now I’m creating visual art and clothing as well.
Being independent may not be the easiest way to build a creative career, but it’s given me something I value more than conventional success: freedom. And after 20 years, I know that was the right choice for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth. Finding an audience in the social media world is incredibly difficult—there’s just so much noise, so many distractions, and everyone’s attention span seems to be getting shorter.
I also think people sometimes have a hard time with an artist who refuses to stay in one lane. I say what I want, jump between genres, challenge my readers to look at the injustices around them, and—perhaps most importantly—I ask them to actually do something about it.
People love to complain about the world and say they want change. But when you put the uncomfortable truth in front of them, far too often they just scroll past it. That tension has been a theme throughout my work from the very beginning: we all have problems in this world, so what are we actually going to do about them?
Fortunately for humanity, I’m not very good at giving up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Painting-wise, my work is extremely colorful. I’m trying to bring some brightness into what can be a pretty dark world. And I think that same philosophy runs through my writing: I like to make people laugh, think, question things, and occasionally wonder what the hell I was thinking.

Sketches of Verbal Alchemy — One- to six-line “abstract poems” that play with language, ideas, and are inclined to make you expand your mind.
Unfinished Lyrics — An anthology of song lyrics I’ve written. Some have been recorded by collaborators, while others are still waiting for their moment.
I Won the Internet! — Part humor, featuring ridiculous fake social media updates, and part collection of celebrity selfies.
Journal of Grievances — My first novel, told entirely through the pages of a person’s journal for a one year period.
Twisted Tales and Very Short Stories — Two hundred one-page stories designed to make you laugh, cringe, and roll your eyes simultaneously.
Goddamned – A Play — A former child singer wants another shot at the spotlight, but first he has to deal with a few very inconvenient skeletons in his closet.
Post-Celebrity — A story set 500 years in the future. Unfortunately, it may become less fictional if we don’t get our act together.
Paddling Backwards — My first proper novel: a love story involving alien abduction and a serial killer. Because apparently a normal love story wasn’t enough.
The Rise and Fall of Utopia: An Oral History — Think of it as reading a documentary about a fictional epidemic. I wrote and released it months before the COVID vaccine.
In Bad Company — If you’ve ever worked for a terrible boss, you’ll probably recognize a few things in this one.
Bitter Rants and Love Poems — A collection of poetry. You’ll have to figure out for yourself which ones are the rants and which ones are the love poems.
Beware of Dog — Inspired by something an ex-boyfriend said to me, this is essentially my Taylor Swift-style revenge story.
The Autobiography of Ultra — The completely fictional autobiography of a rock star. My mother challenged me to write an entire book without using a single bad word. I accepted the challenge.
The FKN Voice of Reason — A polarizing spiritual guru claims he has written a book that will bring down the bad guys and change the world. Then he dies before the book is released—and a very unexpected chain of events begins.
The Art of Evil — My first screenplay, about an elderly man whose mansion is filled with cursed artwork.
The Book of G.: A Memoir — A reflection on all of the above, a celebration of 20 years as an independent artist, and a collection of behind-the-scenes stories about some of my more legendary encounters with celebrities, from Prince to 2Pac.
Looking at all 16 books together, there’s really no easy way to put me in a box—and honestly, that’s exactly how I like it.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is complete freedom—the freedom to say what I want, create what I want, and change direction whenever I want.
After thousands of brushes with fame and my own encounters with people in the spotlight, I’ve seen how easily people can sell their souls for money, attention, or notoriety. But fame and money can disappear. And when they do, if you’ve given up your freedom along the way, what’s left?
To me, that’s another form of enslavement. I’d rather have less money and complete creative freedom than have everything the world says I should want and be owned by someone else.
